The city hall of Bordeaux has chosen the winning project for the redevelopment of the Chaban Delmas stadium & park area. The architects are Pierre & Venezia Ferret.

There will be pedestrianisations, housing (free access, social, student & retirement), shopping, underground parkings, indoors sports facilities. Parc Lescure and the other nearby park will be connected. The architectural clutter will be removed and the heritage parts will be put under the spotlight. The stadium capacity will vary from 34k to 25k (I don't know what's that supposed to mean). Boxes will be inserted in the main stand and a big VIP reception area will be done in the Southern end. Under the Northern end there will be a gym.

The project will be submitted for final voting of the city council in February 2016.

Construction works to start next February

MÉCA, The Aquitaine House for Creative Economy and Culture | Quartier Bordeaux Sud | Bordeaux Euratlantique | BIG and FREAKS architects | €50 millions | Opening 2018

Quote:
The new Maison de l’Économie Créative et de la Culture en Aquitaine, MÉCA, located on the historical riverfront of Bordeaux will house three regional visual and performing arts agencies FRAC, the ECLA and the OARA in one single institution. The Regional Council of Bordeaux selected the winning team among proposals from SANAA, the Toulouse- based firm W-Architectures and Bordeaux-based FLINT.

BIG’s proposal arranges the new center for contemporary art, the performing arts institution and the center for literature and movies around a public space open towards the city of Bordeaux and the Garonne River. The building is conceived as a single loop of public space and cultural institutions as the pavement of the promenade rises to form the roof of the main lobbies, ascends vertically along the stage tower of OARA, bridges across the promenade with the sky lit galleries of the FRAC and returns vertically to the ground at the archives of the ECLA in order to reunite with the waterfront promenade.

“When a region or a city invests millions in a major new cultural institution – it often ends up benefiting only the informed few that already have an interest in the arts. Not only does the MÉCA spill its activities into the public realm and the urban room, but the public is also invited to walk around, through, above and below the new cultural gateway. By inviting the art into the city and the city into the arts, the MÉCA will provide opportunities for new hybrids of cultural and social life beyond the specific definitions of its constituent parts.” Bjarke Ingels, Founding Partner, BIG.

The urban room allows everyday life of Bordeaux to flow through its generous frame along the promenade, injecting the art into the city and the city life into the building. The multiple ramps and stairs of the building create an institution that is publicly accessible and welcoming on the inside as well as the outside. The urban room and the informal seating of the stairs will make the MÉCA a lively place and a natural extension of the life along the Quai de Paludate street and the new promenade. During festivals or other special occasions in the city, the outside of the MÉCA can be transformed into a stage for outdoor concerts, theatrical spectacles or art installations.

Bordeaux ranked 2nd best world destionation in 2016, by the New York Times

Bordeaux, France
An ancient wine region gets a stunning update.

This year will see the opening of the Bordeaux Wine and Trade Museum, an ambitious institution along the coast of the river Garonne dedicated to the history of French viticulture. The undulating wooden structure, designed by XTU architects, is part of a huge greening and revitalization effort along Bordeaux’s waterways, which also includes the 2013 opening of the Pont Jacques Chaban-Delmas, Europe’s largest lift bridge, and the transformation of 700,000 square miles of former docklands into more than 5,000 new apartments and public waterside attractions.

In 2007, half of the restored neoclassical city was Unesco-listed, making it the largest urban World Heritage site. And all the effort has been paying off: A 2013 survey ranked Bordeaux France’s second-favorite city, after Paris. More recently, a restaurant boom has welcomed enticing openings by the likes of Joël Robuchon, whose namesake restaurant opened at the end of 2014 within the city’s palatial Grande Maison hotel. Gordon Ramsay recently took the helm at Le Pressoir d’Argent, the restaurant within the InterContinental Bordeaux — Le Grand Hotel, while the French celebrity chef Philippe Etchebest, has taken over the Café Opera in Bordeaux’s Grand Théâtre. Other appetizing new entries include Franco-Chinese restaurant Dan, high-end minimalist Garopapilles and locavore Belle Campagne, in a rustic-chic townhouse in Bordeaux’s picturesque Old Town.

A lifting of the Place du Colonel Raynal and the rue Claude Bonnier in Bordeaux

The new development of the Place du Colonel Raynal proposes the creation of a large square vegetated with trees, on which will be installed Mériadeck fountain (formerly positioned square André Lhote). The circulation of bikes will also be allowed on this space classified pedestrian area.

Side street Claude Bonnier, the development plan includes the construction of a pedestrian square in front of the Cité Municipale, a leafy band, and a parking space assigned to the disabled and school buses. In the delivery of this project, traffic will be reduced to a sense, since the Albret over to the Rue du Chateau d'Eau, a direction against being reserved for buses and emergency vehicles.

Tracklaying completed on French high-speed line
Wednesday, January 06, 2016

A milestone was reached in the construction of France's Sud-Europ Atlantique (SEA) high-speed line at the end of December, when the final section of rail was welded north of the Dordogne Viaduct in Gironde, a year after tracklaying began in the department of Charente.

Ballasting and electrification work continues and this phase of the project is due to be completed by the middle of the year, by which time contractors will have installed 1400km of rail, 1.1 million sleepers, three million tonnes of ballast, and 14,000 catenary masts.

Good question haha

I think that if we get another good mayor I think it would be even better for the city as he/she will be 100% concentrated with the city which is not the case right now.
