Reconstruction of baroque gardens and possible restoration of abandoned royal palace in Boadilla del Monte (Madrid, Spain)

AT LAST!!!

They´re going to restore and open to visitors one of the best Baroque palaces in the Madrid region, the Palace of the Infant Don Luis, in Boadilla del Monte.
To give you an idea, the palace is slightly bigger than the Château de Cheverny (France), and the gardens used to be considered a Baroque masterpiece.
The palace and the gardens have been abandoned for long.

Many of us in SSC Spain were wondering why, since it undoubtedly has the potential to become an important touristic attraction.

The first quoted post is from February.

Schemes of the gardens as they were and as they will be restored:

Update from April 7 2014.

The first phase of the restoration of the palace has already started and will be finished in one year, if all goes well:

Aerial views of the Château de Cheverny (France) in the first place, and in second place the Boadilla del Monte palace, to give you an idea, as seen from 200 m high each:

And on that upper terrace, surrounded by parterres and other ornaments, was the Fountain of the Shells (Fuente de las Conchas), which is now located in the gardens of the Madrid Royal Palace since it was taken there as soon as 1844. It was designed by Ventura Rodríguez in 1765. Image of the fountain ins its current location in Madrid.

Quite some work to be done until the gardens reach again the same splendor as the ones in the Madrid Royal Palace, don´t you think?

To finish (for now), just say that in the last years some movies have been filmed here, like 'Goya´s Ghosts' or 'Witching and bitching'.

Or Ferial de Boadilla.

Actually, both tramway stations are the starting points for a green route around the Boadilla forest, which is a pretty well preserved original Mediterranean forest in which the palace is integrated, and it is a good place for biking, jogging or just walking around:

Ruta Verde del Monte de Boadilla

That's a good point of the palace of Boadilla as it preserves on one side of the palace the urban façade where the town is, and on the garden side the original natural environment which is the forest. A really baroque layout at some point.

I can't wait to see the finished product. Any building in this state should be restored. The gardens aldso have a lot of potential!

My city has a grand Art Nouveau Casino building that is also abandoned. Hopefully it will one day recieve the same treatment as this building.

So, is the fountain going back to Boadilla?

I don't think so...

Apparently, they gonna keep the 19th century cast iron fountain...

That's unfortunate... they could build a replica though since it's such an important element of the garden.

We will see what they do in later phases of refurbishment of the garden. Still, the lower level needs to be recuperated. Maybe then...

From the drawings, the lower level was probably an orchard. Shouldn't be too hard to restore.
