My favorites are:

1º São Paulo (has several skylines of all kinds)

2º Catagena de Indias (the sea, the buildins, the coast design, very interesting)

3º Caracas (density chaotic, i like)

These are the only interesting in south america for me

Central America isn't a continent. You don't recognize them as south American, so we'll gladly include them in the north American family. In the end though, it doesn't matter. North, central, east, west, south: they're just different regions of America.

Santiago. Modern architecture, buildings concentrated in a "First World" style downtown with great planning.

Sao Paulo has different skylines, no matter where you look for them. Spotlight on the Marginal Pinheiros, with its modern buildings

Rio de Janeiro. A wonderful landscape, with a classic downtown reborn with modern skyscrapers!

Hey Guys Argentina it's not only Buenos Aires

Santa Fé (600.000 pop.):

La Plata (500.000)

Salta (500.000)

Rosario (1.200.000)

image hosted on flickr

For me São Paulo can't be the best skyline, it has no beuty just a huge mass of concrete painted qith different colours.

Rio, it's stunning thogether with BA are on the first place
below them comes Santiago and Montevideo

Well, very nice pictures, but most of them do not really show a true skyline.
I got the idea that a skyline is a picture showing the silhouette of the most important buildings of any given city or town against the sky sitting behind it (including some natural features like mountains, ocean, lake, beach, etc).
This is not about who's the best city or the largest city, but who has the nicest skyline if we take into account the descriptions I have just given above.

For what I've seen in the thread, I can rank the top-10 SouthAmerican skylines like this and you are quite welcome to disagree with me.

01. Santiago (Chile) -Santiago wins for the Cordillera factor-
02. Sao Paulo (Brasil)
03. Curitiba (Brasil)
04. Rio de Janeiro (Brasil)
05. Bogota (Colombia)
06. Quito (Ecuador)
07. Lima (Peru)
08. Buenos Aires (Argentina)
09. La Paz (Bolivia)
10. La Plata (Argentina)

Cheers
