Hello guys,

Below is a handwork of research and a chart that I built about 80 skylines of Latin America.
Although this thread is about South America I have included Central America cities in my researches. You may exclude some cities if you wish to reveal the best ones just in S.A.

As a source of research I used the SSC forums and other sites containing lists of skyscrapers, wikipedia and other encyclopedias, maps and of course hundreds of photos.
Despite the effort I know there are flaws and I am sure I will not please everyone.
Any comments or suggestions will be very welcomed for future analysis and refinement of the chart.

Cities are like living organisms, they are in constant transformation and growth.
So this is a "living-chart" and can be changed at any time based on suggestions, criticisms, updates and modifications of the skyline with the passage of time.
If you do not see your hometown on the chart it is probably because it got a score lower than the 80 listed. If you believe that some city should be on this list ... then just suggest the inclusion for the next analysis.
Above all thank you for reading and have fun with my study.

Understanding the chart ...

Visual Impact Index - is the first impression we get when we see the main region of a city, whether it be through pictures, or even personally. It is the most important data of the table and the one that generates the highest score (up to 20 points). This index also combine calculations of height influence, the impact caused by population density, composition of cities silhouettes ... and I also added the surrounding landscape. It is the "Wow" factor caused by the first and the lasting impression of a city. Despite lots of math and calculation was used to reach a number, this is the part of the table that has the highest dose of subjectivity, reflecting my own opinion and based on my personal observations and experiences (I've visited 37.5% of the cities listed).
Height - This factor is the first to serve as tie-breaker considering its importance in the analysis. Obviously it takes into account the number of existing skyscrapers (though the sources may be outdated in some cases). However it is not solely based on the highest buildings. It is important to realize that a skyline is often seen in photographs and a sense of height is not always measured in meters/feet. Thus, the Panama City got 10 because of its location by the sea with long, tall buildings (without too many obstacles in front) provides that feeling ... not necessarily because it has a larger number of skyscrapers than SP or Mexico City, for example.
Density - Understand by that the conglomerate of urban mass. Sometimes continuous, sometimes interrupted ... which adds or subtracts from the score.
Style - This valuation is based on volume, symmetry (or not), composition and distribution of buildings.
Features - Any building, whether be it a museum, an arena, a tourist attraction (i.e. Christ the Redeemer statue) or any building that stands out in the landscape and adds value to the skyline. Depending, it can also depreciate.
Uniqueness - What makes a city unique when compared to others ... for example ... gigantism, surroundings, unusual buildings (modern or historical), nature, beauty, angles, etc..
Geography - Although present in small doses in other criterias, in this phase the city is placed against its background and scored specifically on how it harmonizes with its environment.... monutains, rivers, lakes, ocean, parks, sand dunes, forests, rolling hills... all landscape in general is taken into account.

Ready? Now to work .... have fun!
