However, Rijeka intends to keep its typical economical activities, such as port activities, shipbuilding and oil processing industry. Special attention has been paid to the communal infrastructure, sustainable development and ecology.

I remember the walking on main pedestrian street in Rijeka. Think the pictures 4, 6 and 7 are from it.

It is interesting that National Teather in Rijeka was built by Helmer & Felner from Vienna, same architects that built Croatian national teather in Zagreb. Project is also almost the same. BTW teather in Rijeka is 10 years older than teather in Zagreb.

Rijeka HNK:

Zagreb HNK:

Also, Central station in Rijeka was built by Ferenc Pfaff, which built Central station in Zagreb. See similarity:

Very interesting comparison, long foot I think the same architects did also build theaters in Ljubljana and Bratislava which in my opinion look pretty similar too.

Long foot, you are right, Slovak National Theatre (Slovenské národné divadlo) in Bratislava was built according to F.Fellner and H. Helmer project, which were the architects, specialised in the theatre construction. From the picture could be seen quite similarities. Here is also a link to the article.

According to that article you posted, National theatre in Bratislava was built in1886. one year after Rijeka. Similarity is obvious. I heard that there is one theatre in Ciudad de Mexico, which is completely identical to HNK in Zagreb. It seems Helmer and Felner were very creative

Well, Helmer and Felner for sure proposed fine architectural buildings and it is probably not coincidence, that probably even in Mexico we can find their works. Long foot, here is a bigger picture.

It is not just a coincidence that similar theater was built in Mexico, because A-H monarchy and imperial Mexico were connected: brother of emperor Franz Joseph I. was Mexican emperor. I guess that is why Austrian architects built their theatres.

I looove Rijeka. Despite it is a relatively small city it's very cosmopolitan, and I can tell you that the nicest people in Croatia come from Rijeka.

Never knew Rijeka looked like this
Someone told me Rijeka was the industrial/port city, while its bigger brother , Split, was the beautiful one - guess that was wrong

By the way, I heard that there's a lot of Serbs living in Rijeka...?
