Well, Rijeka is the industrial city and the main and largest Croatian port. It can't be compared to Split so much cuz Rijeka was strongly influenced by architects from Vienna, Leipzig, Budapest and Trieste, so they left deep architectural marks on the city, while Split was built on a different hystorical track and circumstances. I didnt know there were many Serbs in Rijeka.

Did you took these pics by yourself, Bubach? I like these old buildings in center of Rijeka, constructed in A-H imperial style, like this:

Do you know is this Governor's palace:

No, long foot, none of all those Rijeka pictures are mine unfortunately I just downloaded them from different sources, while just a few of 'em were provided by my friends

The first building is called Modello Palace and guess who built it?
Who else than Helmer and Fellner lol Seriously!

The second building is so called "Governor's Palace" and is
Maritime and Historical Museum of the Croatian Littoral.

Thanks for all these photos Bubach. Rijeka is great city, but there are some things that I realy don't like there. For example, their central bus station is awful!
Other thing: last time when I was in Rijeka I decided to visit Croatian Maritime Museum in Governor's palace, but it was CLOSED! Ok, it was sunday, but touristic city like Rijeka can't close Museums just because it is sunday!

Thanks Bubach, that a great collection of pictures on Rijeka. Out of the times that I visited Rijeka, these were the things I noticed.

1) Very cosmopolitan city, more so than Zagreb
2) Strong Austro-Hugarian architectural influences, including the famous Helmer & Fellner, in particular to the theatres.
3) I considered the city back to front in the sense that the most beautiful parts of the city were not on the waterfront but actually to the back. The waterfront was OK but needed improvements, especially the removal of that ghastly department store.
4) Definately a city on the go with the new and many construction projects such as the Rijeka Ports Project.

Who told ya that nonsens about "bigger brother Split" Kommandant Mark
( and Zalosna Sova...hehehe ) ???
Rijeka iz much larger city than Split in every sense, even though
according to Emporis has only 17.000 people more than Split, it's
wrong census, but take a look:

Rijeka:
As you'll see there's lot of high rise in Rijeka
http://www.emporis.com/en/wm/ci/?id=100717

Split:
None of the high rise in Split...
http://www.emporis.com/en/wm/ci/?id=100716

Regarding Serbs...you can find them much more in Istria especially
in Pula; for example: in the building where I used to live in Pula among
10 families 8 were serbs, but you must know that Istria and Pula were
faraway from the battle lines in the ex war:

No, Istrian, you are wrong. Split is much bigger than Rijeka. Those statistics on Emporis are not right.

From official sites:

Split has 200.459 inhabitants

http://www.splitsko-dalmatinska-zupanija.hr/UOlo_dj.htm

Rijeka has 144.043 inhabitants

a prenategnute i precesto cudne i kontradiktorne demografske podatke
treba znati tumaciti...BTW Chicago oficijelno ima 2. 869. 121
a Toronto 2. 481.494
No in reality Chicago je much, much larger...
Think about that !!!

Zahvaljujem

Thanks for those pics, SinCity, but it is obvious that you don't live in Croatia This building on the pic is not Jadran Villa, but head-office of Jadrolinija, biggest Croatian ferry company:

Nitko to ovdje nije ni rekao.

^Rijeka is very old city. It was most importan port of A-H monarchy. In the begining of 20. century it was almost big as Zagreb, but it didn't grow much later. Of course there are some ugly socialistic apartment skyscrapers in Rijeka, but it is mostly beautiful old city with cosmopolitan atmosphere. Many Italians live there, also many Czechs, Serbs, Albanians, Bosniaks…

u svemu...Znamo onu dalmatinsku pjesmu: Ca je LONDRA (LONDON)
kontra Splitu gradu...hahaha
zaboga...Rijecani s druge strane nikad nisu imali takve teznje i potrebe...

RIJEKA.

zacijelo najjaci u Hrvatskoj, a glede visokogradnje prednjaci daleko u
Hrvatskoj. Izmedju ostalog cetiri 28-katna nebodera...

Ja sam osobno prokrstario i jedan i drugi grad i dobro ih poznajem.

POZDRAV SVIMA IZ TORONTA S MOG PROZORA, 25-ti KAT:
