Luxembourg tram model on display
07 Dec 2015

LUXEMBOURG: A full-sized mock-up of the tram that CAF is to supply to Luxembourg City went on display on December 7. It will remain in the Kirchberg district for public viewing until January 31.

At 15 m, the model is one-third of the length of the 21 Urbos trams that CAF will supply under an €83m contract signed earlier this year. The trams will be 2 650 mm wide and 3·6 m high, with capacity for 450 passengers. Styling has been undertaken by Avant Première

I am sure that Rainbow Brite would approve of this new tram!

Actually, I get to Luxembourg on a regular basis. They have had a very good public transport system for the entire country since I first came in contact with the place back in the 70's. Today's system puts the old to shame as it is so much better with more coverage to more places for more hours. I was riding in an articulated AVL (Luxembourg City's public transport operator) on a Sunday afternoon recently and the bus was totally full going into town around 16:00/4 PM!

Better yet, it is quite cheap to use. A single ticket is €2 and a day ticket, valid until 04:00/4 AM the next morning is only €4 for unlimited use of all public transit in the entire country, country buses and trains included!

Good for Luxemburg that they are getting A tram, with 21 45-metre trams they will have some capacity left to spare.

First Luxembourg tram on test
16 Jan 2017

LUXEMBOURG: The first tram for the line under construction in Luxembourg City is due to be delivered next month. It is currently undergoing dynamic tests at CAF’s factory in Zaragoza, where two further trams are currently in production.

More than 30 000 people saw a full-scale mock-up that went on display in the city in December 2015, and public feedback has influenced the final layout of the vehicle, on which work started in March. The trams are 45 m long, 2 650 mm wide and 3·6 m high, with capacity for 300 passengers, including 75 seated
