At least he was looking at them at ground level at 300 km per hour instead of flying over the country at 30000 ft at 800 km per hour and coming to the same conclusion.

Funny when one can't point out specific examples. The common fallacy of mistaking big unfinished U/C projects for on hold.

WUHAN | Phoenix Towers | 1000m | 3300ft | 100 fl | Concept

Phoenix Towers

ATTN: Can a mod bold the title and change "Concept" to "Pro" please?

The Phoenix Towers (Chinese: 凤凰塔; pinyin: Fènghuángtǎ) are proposed supertall skyscrapers planned for construction in Wuhan, China.

At 1 kilometre (3,300 ft) high, the towers will be the tallest structure in the world when completed. The towers are being designed by Chetwoods Architects. Completion is planned for 2018 at a cost of GB£1.2 billion

The Phoenix Towers are being designed by London-based Chetwoods Architects in partnership with the HuaYan Group. The project will consist of two buildings, representing the male and female dualistic aspects of Chinese culture. The taller tower, Feng, will have about 100 floors for residential living, offices and retail space. The slightly smaller Huang tower will contain "the world's tallest garden".The towers will be constructed on an island in a lake, covering a 7-hectare (17-acre) site.

The buildings will be constructed on a steel superstructure with concrete cores and buttresses. The exterior will be covered in photovoltaic panels.

The towers will incorporate green energy technologies including wind, solar, thermal, biomass boilers and hydrogen fuel cells
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phoenix_Towers_(China)

One of four master plans Chetwoods are developing for Hua Yan Group in Central China’s new ‘Fourth Pole’ economic and cultural engine zone, where Wuhan has recently been re-designated an environmental city of the future by the regional and central governments.

Phoenix Towers will be an iconic landmark within an ambitious environmental master plan for Wuhan, the capital of central China. Situated on the Yangtze River at the crossroads of nine provinces, the ‘City of 1000 Lakes’, population 10 million, has recently been designated an environmental ‘Super City’ by the regional and central government.

At 1km high the Phoenix Towers will be the tallest pair of buildings in the world. The 47-hectare site (the towers cover 7 hectares) on an island in a lake at the end of a 3km avenue within a dense city layout will provide long vistas. Arching bridge-like over the surrounding boulevards, each tower will have a unique personality and attributes: the Feng tower will lean towards the commercial zone, the Huang tower towards the cultural and recreational zone.

The project’s key emphasis is on the harmonious combination of 21st century Western technological know-how and experience with Chinese tradition and culture. In response to the Client’s wish to develop a new style of architecture that emphasises Chinese identity, the use of a pair of towers reflects the dualist elements of Chinese culture in contrast to a more Western monolithic form.

The scheme will provide the environmental catalyst to re-invigorate the city, actively avoiding the disastrous consequences of developments elsewhere in China. It will form the nucleus of a wider green strategy linking Wuhan’s lakes environmentally and socially with the region’s landmark destinations and lake district along a 20km Green Wall of China to a new lakeside cultural tourist destination.

This landmark project will showcase social, economic and environmental sustainability within China, providing an entertaining and instructive experience for local people and visitors.

Design features: Based on the traditional Chinese Phoenix – two birds, male Feng and female Huang; The plan was generated from Yin/Yang form to represent perfectly balanced union; Symbiotic – the Feng tower uses cutting edge technology to feed the Huang tower with renewable power.

Environmental features: Lightweight photovoltaic cladding; thermal chimneys; suspended air gardens; wind turbines; water harvesting/recycling; waste recycling via biomass boilers; hydrogen fuel cells at ground level. The towers will generate their own power requirement while contributing to the surrounding district.

Structural features: Steel superstructure; concrete core with ‘hat’ truss; trussed structure at base; out-riggered for lateral stability; concrete buttresses.

I searched for a thread and couldn't find one. If this is true then this one should be deleted.

Thanks. Apologies, didn't show up in my search.

If some of this information hasn't been posted in that thread it should just be added to it and this one removed.

I have great doubts this twins will be build. According to the renders the structure seems very complex and hard to construct. I think this project will end in the vision drawer like so many others pushed forward to make architects important and a city worldknown. But i hope future will proof me wrong...

I agree. Also, until 2018? That's far too less time.

I've already hear about this ones, but it has a height of 1800+m, Is it true the original plan was about more than 1800m or I confused with another one?

now that we have the megatall section, we could rename the status of some projects to VISION and still have them in this section

This is quite an amazing concept. Any chance it's actually worked on?
