NEW YORK | 215 Chrystie St. | 96m | 314ft | 28 fl | T/O

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Herzog & de Meuron to Design Schrager's Chrystie St. Hotel

Quote:
Architecture firm Beyer Blinder Belle may have filed the permits for Ian Schrager's new hotel at 215 Chrystie Street, but according to the Post, they won't be designing it. That job falls to much more innovative Herzog & de Meuron, the starchitect team behind Curbed favorites 56 Leonard and 40 Bond Street. A rendering on the construction fence provided a first look at the hotel, and Schrager is reportedly unveiling the whole project to brokers today.

Herzog & de Meuron will create the look of the 370-room hotel, which will occupy the first 18 floors of the 28-story building, and John Pawson will design the interiors of the 11 full-floor and half-floor residences at the top. The hotel will be New York's first Public hotel. The Sperone Westwater Gallery tried and failed to stop the hotel from rising, and work is now ongoing at the site. It's expected to be complete by winter 2016.

it should stand out in the area, even if it is in the 300 foot range

I see the "refined gritty" they were talking about. I like it.

Top floors look pretty tall, could end up in the Highrises section.

Bare concrete in combination with glass. Like 432Park, but this will look more bad ass.

I always found HdM to be masters in executing designs, this could end up really nice.

Seems like exposed concrete and exquisite reflective glass is becoming a staple of Herzog & DeMeuron based on the 3 resi buildings they're working on in the city.
It's a mix of simplicity, creativity and sophistication that works very well, maybe they can teach a thing or two to those guys at AS&GG and their gross designs.

That looks incredible!
The concrete looks like carved chunks of stone and the glass is beautiful, looks to be of the same quality as 56 Leonard!

This is incredibly beautiful

Love how the windows are larger on the top half of the building. Such a simple move yet it instantly makes it a more interesting building. Contemporary yet timeless. And the combination of glass and concrete is on point. NYC needs more buildings like this!
