I may be wrong but this seems to be the most plausible spot for a supertall on the UES cause I really can't think of anywhere else you can build this tall in that area.

Extell Development appears to be moving forward with development of a Third Avenue block between 94th and 95th streets. On June 11, Helwal Engineering filed for a permit to demolish 1681 and 1683 Third Avenue, two of Extell’s holdings along the Upper East Side strip, city records show.
....
The residential zone where the properties are located allows for the highest density residential development in the city, a Department of City Planning spokesperson previously told The Real Deal.
Extell did not immediately return calls for comment.

I don't know, a supertall so much north is great, it will totally dominate, but I think it should be designed in the same style as the other buildings in the hood.

That is what I'm thinking too! If there is going to be a supertall in the upper east side it would be on the southern most and the northern most end of the UES. This is definitely exciting news!

DP started a thread for it, but we shall see.

It's not Extell's site.

hmmm! I'm curious where this potential site could be? Extell has a couple big UES sites to go big but I'm intrigued as to where this sucker is located.

Could this be the mysterious supertall Lord Wellesly had been hinting?

This is what we have:

Quote:
Lastly, I hear there may be a supertall you are designing on the Upper East Side?

That is going to be a very innovative building — it’s going to be exciting.

And it’s going to be around 1,000 feet tall, yes?

Around.

http://newyorkyimby.com/2014/06/inte...ohn-cetra.html

I just hope "Around" becomes "beyond"!

Too early for that. I think we jumped the gun opening a thread for this since we don't have an address or at least a project name. Though it might as well be left open now that we know it exists and the source is reliable. I can't imagine this tower being too far north. Residents would cause an uproar with the height.

I threw the architects into that provisional title to signify that this is the only way we can identify the project at this time. Obviously there's a developer who wishes to remain anonymous for now. Maybe there's a property that still needs to be acquired to set the wheels in motion. 432 PA required several of those.

It seems Manhattan's own "Billionaires Row" is slowly creeping northward. The second tallest nearby will be 520 Park when that is built.

the third tallest, Trump Palace at a 'measly' 623 feet

So the architect is not a reliable source? Do you think the hottest architect in NYC gets paid to design imaginary buildings? Here's a thought:

I am saying that this section is for actual supertall proposals, not for hints from some architect that he is designing something somewhere which might be a supertall.

This is real. NY doesn't do pie in the sky. Stay tuned for details.

The mythical 100 story Shvo tower was fun to discuss but had no site, no architect (that we're aware of) and only Shvo himself as the prospective developer. This one has an architect who's obviously working for an as yet un-named developer. No tower of this magnitude gets designed without a specific site which again remains un-named (Any sleuths here? We can definitely detective this one). There could be a leak or press release about all this tomorrow. In a sense, the cat's already out of the bag thanks to the YIMBY. Early? Yes.

As for height, we've had serious supertall proposals that got downgraded before and we've had serious highrise proposals that morphed into supertalls. NYC real estate is a very fluid game. Nothing is ever really off the table until the diggers show up.

I agree the Shvo tower shouldn't have been opened, this on the other hand seems to have more ground to step on

Indeed!

While I do not know exactly where the site is, I can confirm the bold. And the thread is based on words out of the architect's mouth. This is definitely happening, and details should be out soon.

The 100-story Shvo tower most definitely has a site.
