yes! now I can get excited about this. If this turns out as good as the renders it will completely transforms downtown Brooklyn. I mean Brooklyn has the Brooklyn bridge as a world wide recognizable icon, but the irony there is it was built for people to be able to get out of Brooklyn...

This tower will quickly become one of the most identifiable structures in the borough.

Damn, they really put in some work to pull every page of that PDF. I thought about doing that here on SSC but even sticking to the highlights would have been very time-consuming. Go YIMBY!

At the risk of repeating myself ad nauseum, that document thoroughly outlines why SHoP is slaying the NY architecture scene right now. They're living proof that "form follows function" need not lead to boring boxes, and you get the sense that they love the historical buildings they're helping preserve as much as the new ones they're designing.

Old vs new design. The new is very pretty, but I still prefer the original. Also, if you compare with the grey building in the background, it looks like the new design is significantly shorter than the old one.

I agree, but if this is an incremental step for Brooklyn to get anything this good, it may only be the beginning of more great projects?

Absolutely. It should also be said that even with the downgrade from the old to the new design, it still is an immensely beautiful building.

i like the new design more. Its almost like how someone in the 1930s would have envisioned skyscrapers in the future (which is kinda true. give this tower a green tint and it would fit right in emerald city from 1939's Wizard of Oz).

They couldn't have chosen a better location, in the heart of Brooklyns downtown. The old design had a much more Prairie style to it that I liked, although too thin for my taste. The new design is much chunkier and dominating which is much preffered. It should be interesting to see how the crown will look, there's nothing else like it anywhere in the world. Together with city point and the proposed towers across from Barclays, Brooklyn's skyline is about to get interesting.

Absolutely stunning masterpiece. It's gothic, elegant and gorgeous. Much better than that glorified matchstick 420 Park Ave that they decided to build in Manhattan.

beautiful revision, it's so much more sleek and vertical now
and the crown is seamlessly integrated while in the original design it felt disjointed

a hundred years from now people will be referring to SHOP as the McKim, Mead, and White of the 21st century

To me the height makes up for the cladding even tho it's super boring. The height is one of my favorite parts of 432 because it's so thin.

There's a lot of demolition still to go. They knocked down one of the buildings on the site but not the other, and they'll have to open up the back of the Dime Savings Bank before construction, too. I'd guess vertical construction doesn't start until fall or winter of this year.
