For now you just sound like a person without a driver's license giving driving advice to everybody...take a trip to London, New York, Paris, Hong kong etc and you'll see that buildings can't be judged based on one number.
You failed to notice one thing. I don't base my opinion about this on impression, I base it on numbers. Impressions of seeing a supertall won't change anything because I never based what I consider top class height on them. Numbers are numbers and they will never change, no matter what one's feelings are. That is what I love on math

Btw, for your information, I am in great awe whenever I pass by the 112 meter highrise I mentioned earlier. I am absolutely amazed how something this gigantic can exist. So trust me, I have feelings too, it's just that I don't base my decision about what is truly tall on them

The facade texturing in the rendering isn't as realistic looking as it could be, but the real thing could be quite interesting if the idea is to use two colors of glass about like what's on One57 in NYC. I can't quite decide if the more silvery vertical strips are supposed to be highly reflective glass, or supposed to be shiny metal panels. I would think glass, but I may be wrong.

When I was a kid ('80s-'90s), SLC was the closest city with highrises. I was highly impressed by those buildings growing up. Around age 17 I went to Seattle, and went to their black monolith Columbia Center, even went to the top. Their tallest buildings are far more impressive than anything in SLC. I've seen multiple large US cities up close since then. I was never impressed with Empire State Building in pictures. Quite frankly, the Chrysler Building was always much more interesting of a design to me, but after seeing ESB with my own eyes at age 21, and going to the observation deck on top of it, I must say that I have a much greater appreciation for that huge structure, especially considering that it was built around 80 years ago. Photos and videos, no matter how high def, just doesn't do these buildings any justice. Any 300ish+ meter building is quite something to behold up close with your own eyes. In the moment it almost doesn't seem real that us little peon humans can actually pull off building these massive structures.

I get what you're saying though. I'd love to find an excuse to see even taller buildings in person such as Burj Khalifa and Shanghai Tower. It'll probably blow my mind with an aneurysm.

This is an interesting design. It will definitely be unique in Chicago, but I'm interested in seeing how the cladding is designed.

Speculation

This project is getting shaddy-er by the day, wanda has taken down there initial release from there page. There original post was less then legitimate calling Chicago the second largest-city.

It also seems that there is a large amount of mis-comunication. This took gang, magellan, reilly, and chicago of gaurds. This will not set well with Reilly who has a history of destroying projects in this ward.

Gang, and Magellan have still not said anything for a couple weeks after it has been announced nobody legit is comifirming anything. The whole thing looks strange, and un-relable. ( not to mention someone at spp said they saw the same desgins at bKL architecture not gang)

Yeah, the whole thing reads like a miscommunication but the site stands ready for something significant, whoever gets the commission.

On another note, Howard Hughes has just taken possession of the General Growth Properties building along the river at 110 N. Upper Wacker. That site could easily yield up a supertall.

Zoning calls for 600,000 sf building or so thats fairly small if you want to build a supertall. You need to x3 that if want to get close to a supertall, so this depends on how much the developer wants to spend on the city (which increases zoning). Anyways the building wont be vacant until 2019, unless they can strike a deal such as, pay for new office space somewhere else, and giving then a cheap price for space in a possibly new building.

But news regarding the the design zoning, tentants etc. may come out in a couple years. I would expect nothing less then a 700 footer at this site, and come 5 years this tower will go up right when general growth vacates, because most likely they will have ther shit together.

Baby Steps

Quote:
McHugh Construction has begun very early, very preliminary, embryonic work on the Wanda Tower. It’s recently become active in the space that was formerly the staging area for the first phase of the two-building GEMS Academy. The work appears to be a utility survey, which makes sense since you can’t build up until you get down, and get funky, with what’s underground. And Lakeshore East has some of the funkiest loam in Chicagoland.

Well, it’s because of Loop Spy Scott, who sent in photos, not only of the work being done, but of the signs posted around the site. Signs that helpfully, and very clearly, identify this as work on “Building C.” Building C is the urban planning codeword for the Wanda Tower. And if you’re looking for building permits, you won’t find any. That’s because this work has been classified as street work, so the permits are over at the Department of Transportation, where no skyscraper enthusiast would think to dig for them.

This tower is going to look amazing.

That high unit count is perfect for the market.

Jeez, 374 parking spaces for a building right in the Loop?

Anyway, I'm interested to see how this will turn out. It will be a game changer for Chicago!
