Looks like Queensbridge Tower will be 300m+!

Agree with Mayne though; the bridge is a stupid idea.

Claims CBD views at risk of obstruction from ‘aero bridges’ over streets

http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/vic...-1226984690799

CITY views risk being obstructed as developers push to build “aero bridges” on top of streets across the CBD.

The latest development to cause controversy is Queensbridge Tower which residents say will ruin views and even potentially lower property values.

Developer Schiavello wants to build a high-rise taller than Eureka, Melbourne’s tallest tower, which will be part hotel, part residential apartments, and be connected above ground to Crown Casino.

Councillor Stephen Mayne, deputy chair of the planning committee, said the council strongly discouraged more aero bridges over streets.

“Melbourne’s amenity is impacted if you start blocking views by putting bridges over streets,” Cr Mayne said.

“With the aero bridge proposal linking this enormous hotel and apartment tower proposal to Crown, it becomes a de facto expansion of Melbourne’s casino precinct which is already one of the 20 largest buildings complexes in the world.”

He described Southbank as already one of the most densely developed areas in Melbourne and said “a canyon of towers opposite Crown will put more pressure” on the surrounding area.

“There is a large backlog of enormous applications piling up at the Minister’s door because he has created an expectation that it is almost anything goes for skyscrapers in the capital city zone.”

The Herald Sun understands that Schiavello is in talks with a number of companies to run the hotel.

A Crown spokesman would not confirm or deny if they were in talks with the developer but said they supported the development of the hotel and the footbridge saying it would be an asset to tourism in Victoria.

It is understood that residents at Freshwater Place, whose views could be obscured, are worried this will set a precedent for future mega buildings.

Schiavello’s application is currently lodged with the Department of Transport, Planning and Local Infrastructure.

Crown’s plan to build new mega-tour angers residents

A FOURTH luxury five-star hotel — standing taller than the Eureka Tower — could be on the cards for Crown casino.

The Herald Sun can reveal the casino operator is in talks with developer Schiavello Group to run a 400-room hotel inside what would be Australia’s second-tallest building and would be connected to the casino by a translucent glass bridge.

Opponents say the new connection over Queensbridge St would set a damaging precedent, hinder privacy, block views and even potentially lower property values.

A Crown spokesman would only say the company supported the proposed tower and the footbridge, saying it would be an asset to tourism in Victoria.

In a strong sign that Crown wants the *casino to expand, the company revealed its hotel rooms had an occupancy rate of more than 90 per cent year round.

The 84-level Queensbridge Tower would sit 8m above Eureka and contain 626 apartments, 1165 car parks and a sky lounge.
Melbourne City councillor Stephen Mayne, deputy chair of the planning committee, said the council did not want more bridges being built on top of streets.

“Melbourne’s amenity is impacted if you start blocking views,” he said.

“With the aero bridge proposal linking this enormous hotel and apartment tower proposal to Crown, it becomes a de facto expansion of Melbourne’s casino precinct which is already one of the 20 largest buildings complexes in the world.”

State Planning Minister Matthew Guy said his department was considering the permit application and would take feedback from the council.

“It’s an interesting design, it looks quite striking,” he said.

Mr Guy warned councillors not to jump the gun and “bag” the casino before they’d made a decision on the project”.

Residents at Freshwater Place, whose views could be obscured, are worried a precedent will be set for future mega-buildings. “We’ve got real concern about the height of the bridge, something this big *deserves a lot of public debate,” local Peter Renner said.

Beautiful tower!

If Queensbridge Tower gets built along with Australia 108 and 250 Spencer, then Melbourne will have the 3rd largest concentration of supertalls in the Anglo world, behind just Chicago and New York.

One of Melbourne's supertall proposals took a big step forward today with Crown Resorts (Australia's biggest Casino operator owned by Australia's richest man) officially signing on for the development ..

CROWN PLANS NEW FIVE-STAR HOTEL IN MELBOURNE WITH SCHIAVELLO GROUP TO MEET TOURISM DEMAND

http://www.crownresorts.com.au/Crown...f1f96809b3.pdf

I would expect marketing & sales by Q2 2015 with a view to start construction late 2015 or early 2016

Reports are it could be re-designed again for even more height, somehow breaking the PAN-OPS ceiling in the process.

(Thanks to Bronteboy for quoting Ch.9 news for that info)

Just get rid of the PAN-OPS ceiling already. So draconic!

Updated plans courtesy Ryan Seychell @ urbanmelbourne.info

Height above ground = 307.5m as the ground level entrance is only 0.9m above sea level. The basement is actually below sea level !

IMO it looks too massive. Would be much better if it was a bit narrower.
