What is the ridership of the metro in Genova? Do more ppl use it? When i was there few years ago, and the metro ended in De Ferrari - the trains were mostly empty.

Palermo tram unveiled
14 Jul 2014

ITALY: The first tram for Palermo was officially launched by Mayor Leoluca Orlando on July 14. The vehicle ran from the Roccella depot to Scaffa Square, where it was presented to the public.

Transport authority AMAT ordered 17 100% low-floor Flexity Outlook trams from Bombardier Transportation in 2006 for its 15 km light rail network. This is being built by a consortium led by SIS and including Bombardier, EDS and Mosco. Bombardier is also supplying its Cityflo 150 traffic management system.

The bidirectional air-conditioned trams are 32 m long and 2 400 mm wide, with a capacity of 56 seated and 132 standing passengers. Maximum speed is 70 km/h.

The vehicles are being built in Wien, with electrical equipment supplied from Mannheim and bogies from Siegen.

Line 1 will link Roccella with Palermo Central Station; Line 2 will connect Piazza Armerina and Notarbartolo and Line 3 will diverge from Line 2 at Einstein to serve Terminal CEP. With test running underway on a section of Line 1 between Roccella and Ponte dell-Ammiraglio, this line is currently expected to open for revenue service in 2015.

CAF EMUs enter service in Bari
Friday, January 09, 2015

THE first of five ETR 452 Civity EMUs being supplied by CAF for the Bari suburban network was presented to Puglia regional councillor for mobility and transport Mr Giovanni Giannini, by the president of regional rail operator Ferrotramviaria Mrs Gloria Pasquini and by the company's general director Mr Massimo Nitti on December 19

The first two trains are now being used on services from Bari to Barletta and the Karol Wojtyla airport rail link, which opened in 2013.

The remaining three trains are due to be delivered to Ferrotramviaria later this year.

The 160km/h four-car ETR 452s accommodate up to 448 passengers, 243 of them seated, with dedicated spaces for bicycles and wheelchairs.

The trains are currently only approved for operation on the suburban lines north of Bari but the fleet will also be certified for operation on the national network in the near future

Very nice. Actually Genova metro uses two old tunnel alignments as it seems. The Certosa tunnel was in use for the former tramway. The tunnel was project of the 1920s together with former german company AEG. The other tunnel near De Ferrari must have been a railway-tunnel, maybe something with former harbour traffic. I´m not sure about this. I would like to see they system extended to the east and with a branch to Sampierdarena.

kind regards

News from Italy - new tram extension is opened today in the most unlikely place - Cagliari, capital of Sardinia. I mean Monserrato-Gottardo - Policlinico section:

It's weird, they extend the line in the outskirts and not into the city center. Would be more logical to put rails toward railway station and serve downtown first.
