@redstone, I think the area around Marina Bay MRT station will be left untouched for now, but construction will start on the Downtown Extension instead

@JoSin, that will be exciting to watch. In future they will probably have a Marina Coastal Expressway.

But it seems like it is all going on very slowly. I hoped there will be a construction boom just like in the 70s and 80s.

It is now starting to rise from the foundation, will try to take a pic next week.

well, the construction industry in Singapore is expanding following the slump earlier this decade, with quite a number of landmark projects announced, so just watch and wait LAH

It'll form the 'anchor' of Singapore's new CBD.

It would be the 3rd project to be completed in the Marina Bay Downtown masterplan.

NTUC Centre (One Marina Boulevard) was built in 2004
One Raffles Quay is new completion
Sail is up next.

Before Sail, the new Clifford Pier and cruise centre, the Marina Barrage and Singapore Flyer would be up and running.

well most say that this will not be done but i really do see some possibility...maybe not now but some 10 to 20 years down or even more ......a possibility of a tall tower built on the future marina bay downtown site (not the current IR marina bay) as i just cannot imagine Singapore's skyline with buildings all hitting hte height of 280.....it will be like dominos lol........so yup we just have to wait and see........

i personally feel that it will happen

PLAB is quite a long distance away from the CBD.

Also never seen any planes fly directly over CBD before.

If planes land at PL, I think the normally arrpoach from Katong rather than over CBD.

It is highly possible that it would be closed down in future as land is getting used up, forcing the shift of air bases from Paya Lebar to Changi East. Winks.

Even before the Sail can start rising significantly, work will start on another site NEXT to it this year...the BFC, which is Singapore's biggest office development in about 10 years

As for Singapore going on a super-tall building spree...I doubt it...even if they do allow a landmark development to exceed 280m (if that happens), there are controls on plots of land and stuff like that - with certain sites specifically being zoned tall and some shorter - to deliberately create a variation.
