The CZ 787 was completed and fitted earlier than the A380, and it shows. The A380 cabin certainly looks newer, with slimmer Economy seats and staggered all aisle access Business seating.

Even in these few low res photos, it's very easy to see how much better proportioned the 787-9 will be when compared to the -8. It will be a beautiful aircraft indeed.

Boeing has only said that the 1st flight will be in the 2nd half of this year and that the 1st delivery will be in early 2014. That makes it more like 6-7 months of testing, including the certification process.

It's hasn't changed yet on the Boeings order but Air Berlin's CEO confirms to Aviationweek that:
Quote:
Air Berlin Switches To Boeing 787-9

Air Berlin has changed its current Boeing 787 order from the -8 to the -9, CEO Wolfgang Prock-Schauer told Aviation Week

Prock-Schauer says the 787-8 is now considered too small and the stretched -9 better fits Air Berlin’s requirement for lower unit costs. The airline plans to replace the A330-300 fleet over time. Air Berlin currently has 15 787s on firm order. The order was placed in 2007 but delivery dates have been delayed several times. The first -8 would have been due for delivery in 2015 according to the latest schedule, but that is now shifting further back by two years.
full article:
http://www.aviationweek.com/Article...._p0-584175.xml

They change their order from the -8 to the -9, and defer the deliveries until 2017. Etihad, as a big investor in Air Berlin probably also had something to do with this, they also only have the 787-9 on order.

And for Boeing this is double good news, they will get more money for this order (unless it's part of a compensation deal for earlier delays). And they have some more delivery slots available in 2015, 2016 which they can sell for a good price.

Can't wait to see it in full livery. Does anyone know when it will roll out of the paint shop?

It should roll out of assembly in about 4 weeks, then it could go directly into paint hangar, it could also take some more time.

They should've opted for orange engines.

I'm still curious as to why the rudder isn't partially painted? I was always under the impression it must be partially painted for balancing purposes.
Anyone able to clarify???
