Dang, Ethiopian Airlines... They're the first airline to put the 787 back to service... Was that particular aircraft inspected by the way for repairs after the JAL incidents in Boston?

A Boeing 787 Dreamliner operated by Britain's Thomson Airways flying to the United States from northwest England was forced to return to Britain due to technical issues as a precaution on Friday, the airline said. [...]

It seems there was a fire in the flight attendants rest area that's located underneath the burn marks.

The video on the BBC report shows it even better.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-23295115

It also shows that there's no clear indication of any fire on the passenger deck, the door is open and can you see the white walls of the galley and people walking in the plane. So this shows on 1st sight that it's not a battery fire, so it most likely anything else.

But this is of course extremely bad news for the 787, after all the previous problems Boeing can't use something like this. And with this damage it could even be the 1st hull-loss for the 787, that's never good.

Seems like the electrical system is badly designed, IMO only.

Does Ethiopian use 787 to Seoul or 767? Their inaugural flight was on 787 I believe.

No. It is an airplane design never used before.

Boeing redesigned the 787 electrical system during the grounding earlier this year. Ethopian Airlines did not modify some of their 787s before restarting flights.

Not true, they only built a container for the battery.

Boeing re-designed a part of the electrical system back in 2010, when a fire occurred on ZA002.

All 787s in service have received the battery fix, otherwise they were not allow to execute commercial flights with passengers.

Is the aircraft repairable??? Certainly doesn't seem to be from the footage plus the damage is in a sensitive area.

787 for the first flight switched to the 767. ET 787s serve mainly Brazil, Southern Africa, Europe and Dubai.

I don't think so, it's most probably a write off, there's an apparent extensive fire damage on the fuselage, generally if the fire damage on the fuselage is visible from the outside it's to much for repair.

Sorry, but I have no confidence in an aircraft that constantly catches fire.

ZA468 A7-BCG out for B2 flight:
http://flightaware.com/live/flight/B...600Z/KPAE/KPAE

There were 3 788 flights planned for today, but probably 1 or 2 will be delayed to tomorrow due to accident and closure of PAE's RWY.

Any news concerning the fire onboard the ET B787 in LHR?

No new official info came out during the night, not surprisingly since in terms of aviation incidents it was just a relatively small incident for which there are no hourly press releases. That it was a 787 doesn't change this fact, even though the whole world is looking at this incident right now.

But there will of course be some press releases / press conferences today that should give some light on a possible cause. Some news agencies already say that it could be the air-conditioning based on some eye-witness reports, but that hasn't been confirmed yet.

True. I just saw the Egypt Air 777 that caught fire at the gate which was mostly confined to the cockpit and the aircraft was written off. In any case, any fire that shows on the outside of the fuselage means there's extensive fire & smoke damage inside. That means there's extensive structural damage to just 'fix it'. What I'm not sure is if ET will get to jump the line to replace the aircraft.

Yes it's another B787 incident but difference is this aircraft is likely to be written off!
