LOT Cancelled two 787 flights

August 7, 2013
Poland's flagship carrier LOT cancelled two Boeing 787 Dreamliner flights to Beijing and back after it was forced to reset an onboard computer, the airline said on Wednesday.

"We had to restart an onboard computer, which takes several hours," said LOT spokeswoman Barbara Pijanowska-Kuras. "The same plane will fly to Chicago later today."

LOT, the first European airline to add 787s to its fleet, currently has four of Boeing's flagship planes that were grounded for months earlier this year over concerns with overheating batteries.

Technical glitches unrelated to the batteries forced LOT to cancel several 787 flights last month.

The Polish carrier restarted a service to Beijing earlier this month using the 787.

I noticed that the LOT 1 flight to Chicago is in progress over Norway right now.

So if the WAW–PEK flight is canceled, how will the affected passengers be reimbursed because of course, that flight operates less than a daily...?

And the saga continues, bad bad bad, besides the media really exagerates things sometimes, although glitches should ALL be taken seriously, better safe than never.

The article doesn't state the reason why the crew was forced to reset the onboard computer. It might not even have been a glitch, a simple human error during the original start up could also be a likely cause.

@EK413
It hasn't been spotted outside of the paint shop yet.

LN21 ZA176 JA823J was rolled out from FAL in August 2010, mothballed, without engines. Painted (but without registration) waited for better times.

Later stored in various locations in PAE:

Moved to EMC in August 2012 disappeared for 8 months. In April 2013 rolled out to paint hangar to be repainted:

After repaint moved to EMC again, for final works.

Finally, in July 2013 moved to flightline:

And now, 7th August 2013 it flew for first time:

LN21 also spent a few months inside 40-24. Boeing did some small rework in their before the surge line was activated in August 2012.

Yes, but we don't know what exactly has been done inside 40-24. This frame has been rolling around PAE few times, but final change incorporation/re-work Boeing did inside EMC. Judging by te time ZA176 spent there, I think the most work has been done from August 2012 to April 2013.

For example - all terrible teens finished some modification "body side modification" 2 year ago. In place where today is Delivery Center, Boeing placed big white temporary tent. But these frames still need to spend about 12 months inside EMC to be finished.

Anyone know what's up with LN43 for China Southern? I know the Chinese carriers have been VERY slow in accepting planes, but this one was first flown 10/12/12 and has five flights already. China Southern accepted LN95 (from Charleston) as it's 2nd delivery instead of this one too. I apologize if this was asked and answered prior to my joining this forum.

Air Canada to take 22 Boeing 787-9s

Air Canada will split its order of 37 Boeing 787 aircraft between the 787-8 and the 787-9, says Michael Rousseau, executive vice-president and chief financial officer of the airline on an earnings call today.

"Starting in the first quarter 2014, we expect to take delivery of our first of 37 Boeing 787 aircraft, comprised of 15 787-8s and 22 787-9s," Rousseau tells analysts. "We're excited about the international growth opportunities in front of us and the industry-leading unit cost that this aircraft provides."

Rousseau adds that the carrier will now expect six 787 aircraft deliveries in 2014 instead of seven as previously indicated. One aircraft delivery has been moved from December 2014 to January 2015.

It is unclear whether Air Canada has converted part of its 787-8 orders to the 22 787-9 variants. The airline declines to elaborate further on this detail. Boeing's orders and deliveries table now shows that Air Canada has ordered 37 787-8s.

Air Canada is also planning to receive four additional high-density Boeing 777-300ER aircraft in August, November and December of 2013, with the last aircraft delivery planned for February 2014. The airline received its first of the 458-seat aircraft in the second quarter.

"These new Boeing 777s arriving over the next several months will overlap with the delivery of the first of our 37 Boeing 787 deliveries," says Calin Rovinescu, Air Canada's chief executive officer during his opening remarks on the earnings call.

Darn not a new order. The 787 would help Air Canada expand into new markets. So we can expect to see the Air Canada plane parts go into the factory in October I would say.

It seems that LN22 has been reallocated to Transaero Airlines.
