The 78th delivery.

This also confirms that the LN90 ZA242 VT-ANN has also been delivered to Air India, even though it's still parked at the delivery center for 6 days now.

China's Xiamen to buy six Boeing 787s to launch long-haul flights

SINGAPORE (Reuters) - Chinese carrier Xiamen Airlines has finalized a long-awaited deal for six Boeing 787 aircraft worth $1.27 billion at list prices, allowing it to begin long-haul services to the United States and Europe in 2014.

The airline's parent, China Southern Airlines Co Ltd , said in May 2011 that it had signed a letter of agreement for the six aircraft, but the deal was held up pending approval from the Chinese government. That came this week, according to sources familiar with the deal.

"We've confirmed the order. The first jet will be delivered on July 25 next year," said Xiamen Airlines spokeswoman Shen Zikun. Boeing Co (BA) declined to comment.

Xiamen, which is a member of the SkyTeam alliance, is one of only a handful of all-Boeing aircraft operators. It flies its Boeing 737s and 757s on domestic routes and regional services to Northeast and Southeast Asia.

It plans to use the 787s to launch long-haul services from its home in Xiamen in the southeastern Fujian province which is one of China's fastest growing economic zones. It has not yet confirmed the U.S. and European destinations it will serve.

Most flights from China to Europe and the United States go through one of the three main hubs of Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou, and passengers normally get connecting flights from there to their final destinations.

The country's big four carriers - Air China Ltd , China Eastern Airlines Corp Ltd , China Southern and Hainan Airlines Co Ltd - dominate these long-haul routes.

But airport congestion and increasing demand for point-to-point connections mean that these airlines and their subsidiaries are looking at other cities to serve as ports of entry into China.

This makes China a highly lucrative market for larger twin-aisle passenger aircraft like the Boeing 777 and 787 and the Airbus (EAD.PA) A330 and A350, that can cover the long distances, according to officials from both aircraft makers.

About time, it looks like their 1st is currently the 12th in line to be loaded into assembly. LN149 is now listed as unidentified, this should be Xiamen but since the order wasn't firmed up it couldn't be confirmed yet.

Can't wait to see it in Amsterdam.

That is at least two months away. Xiamen will defiantly firm that order up. There's no doubt unless something happens. There livery will look great on the 787. Hopefully the China's government doesn't delay the delivery unlike China Southern and Hanian. Great news to hear of another 787 order.

Finally another Chinese delivery. Hopefully this time, together with the firming up of the Xiamen order this means there won't be any more political or bureaucratic hold ups. There are plenty 787s for CS and Hainan waiting patiently to go their new home in China.

And the guys at Leading Edge Completions should step their game up. Maybe it has something to do with painting plastic planes instead of aluminum.

5 for China Southern
LN36 ZA381, LN43 ZA382, LN100 ZA385, LN104 ZA386, LN119 ZA387

Bolded one can be delivered within a month, but I don't think China Southern will take more than one till the end of September.

4 frames for Hainan are waiting too, with LN73 ZA430 will be probably delivered in August. LN81 ZA433, LN85 ZA434 can be delivered soon to, only C flights are needed.
LN79 ZA432 is unpainted, without engines, probably in long term storage for delivery in 2014.

I would be much nicer if Royal Brunei used their old colours on the B787.. This is looking simply and not much of fantasy..

Thx for all updates.

I see that LN149 is listed as Unidentified Customer. Do you think that it could be for RwandAir ? Last updates say that in December 2012 they were close to make a firm order.

I remember that for their two B737-800s, they ordered them in December 2009 as Unidentified Customer, but the order was confirmed in May 2010

No that current slot position could go to Xiamen if they firmed up their order. They placed that one yesterday. Unless Rwand Air announces something before Xiamen firm up announcement.

Royal Brunei joined the boring paint livery party like so many other airlines. They should do something flashy like ANA or China Southern.

AirRwanda has always been mentioned as one of the airlines that take a couple of the rejected early 787s. This means that when they firm up the 2 787 options they acquired together with the 737 order it most likely won't result in a new production slots.

For a new production slot this or next year they would have already have done a big down payment to Boeing several years ago. I just don't see how RwandAir would have done that without firming up the order straight away.

The down payments for the rejected early 787s should be much lower and could be done later after they were rejected by the original costumers. I wouldn't be surprised if RwandAir will only firm up the order when they take delivery, that happens more often in this kind of situations. Most recently with the 777-200LR for Iraqi, that was a rejected plane by Air Austral who couldn't pay for it.
