I understand human error but how the heck do they plan to depart. This is going to be interesting to follow.

Maybe the US Air Force could answer this question.

The flight from Jabara to McConnell has been loaded into Flightaware, it should depart in about 30 minutes.

The runway should just be long enough to try it although there won't be any room for error. Many news agencies are on the scene, we should get enough footage of the plane taking off.

they're pretty close airports--about 5 mi. apart... very similar runway configuration as well although the designations i believe are different... maybe they were landing visually from the north and mistaken the Jabara Airport as that of the McConnel AFB.. still pretty funny though...

The dreamlifter is about to depart.

See it live here:
http://www.airlinereporter.com/2013/...-is-too-small/

And it took off safely for an 8 minute flight to it's correct destination a couple of miles down the road.

I think it was an honest mistake that the news made way way too big of a deal about it. Im sure its happened before to other planes and the general public doesnt hear about it.

It was an RNAV approach.

It does indeed happen more often and it's indeed not always picked up by the media.

Making mistakes like the Dreamlifter's are not unusual, some years ago in Mexico a comercial flight landed in broad daylight in a military base with an airstrip, they were sorrounded inmediately by the military police, their destination was about 20 miles away.

But for an experienced company like Boeing to make this mistakes it's always news.

Yeah i think it was:

A slow day in the news

plus the size of the plane that made the error

Boeing is embarassed about the incident. But the pilots landing the plane with 6,000 ft of runway WHEN expecting 12,000 foot runway is pretty impressive.

The Dreamlifters are operated by Atlas Air, it's not a mistake by Boeing, although the general media doesn't know that. Boeing was probably WTF Atlas Air at first, but will now laughing at the incident. Making a note in the files which will be used when next contract for operating these flights is negotiated.

Earlier incidents have also been in the news. That this one might got a bit more attention was because it's such a big and weird looking plane on a small runway. That's more interesting then another 737 landing at a air force base with an extra long runway.

Great. Boeing delivered all early frames for JAL, next one is LN36 ZA381 B-2726 for China Southern. This frame is their last early frame and shoud be delivered this month. LN30 ZA234 VT-ANE can be delivered this month too, and after that delivery all frames from LN30 (Mid-late build) to LN66 will be delivered to original customers. This will leave 4 frames from early build set (with only 3 original customers' frames for Air India).

Deliveries of terrible teens will take much more time, I think Transaero will take delivery of 3 frames in 2014 (first will be LN11 ZA801, 2nd LN14 ZA802 and 3rd LN22 ZA803, and maybe Lion Air will take up their first 787. So we should see 6-7 deliveries of frames from EMC in 2014, 4 from early build and 3 very-early build production set.

I don't know what is going on with LN6 ZA006. This one is undergoing re-work in San Antonio since May 2012 and it dont look like will return to PAE this year. If re-work of LN5 ZA005 will take similar amount of time, then Boeing will be have only 4 bays of EMC for re-working customers frames till 2nd half of 2015...

Matt just posted this:
Quote:
ZA005 N787FT was moved out of Bay 4 of the EMC to the apron tonight.
http://kpae.blogspot.com/2013/11/pai...vember-21.html
This could mean ZA005 just simply has been prepared to long-term storage.

I believe VIP cabin installation is also done in San Antonio.

Welcome to the American Heartland.

Other news we have a new 787 route.

Ethiopian Airlines Plans Boeing 787 Paris / Brussels Service in Jan/Feb 2014

Ethiopian Airlines plans to introduce Boeing 787 operations on limited-time basis only on Addis Ababa – Paris CDG – Brussels route, as per 22NOV13 GDS timetable/inventory display.

The 787 is to operate this route from 27JAN14 to 15FEB14 (ADD departure, Europe until 16FEB14), instead of 767.
