This could mean ZA005 just simply has been prepared to long-term storage.
Guess you are right. It lost its engines...
They probably got transplanted to JAL LN21

Removal of engines isn't anything weird in this situation. Its rather great handicap for re-wiring wings and other works in these areas of frame. These test frames (and terrible teens too) have to be heavily stripped and re-worked.

It looks like China Southern will be taking two deliveries this month (or in early December). LN36 ZA381 B-2726 and LN104 ZA386 B-2737 short test flights (probably last clearances before customer flights):

Constellium secures multi-year contract with Boeing

Netherlands-based aerospace aluminium plate producer Constellium has entered into a multi-year agreement with the Boeing Company to support all of its commercial aircraft programmes.

The contract mainly comprises the continued supply of AIRWARE, the Dutch company's low-density aluminium-lithium solution, for the Boeing 787 Dreamliner jets.

Is this an addition to the fleet or a replacement. When will she be delivered looks great. I hope that the US Government will buy some VIP 787s to replace some of the old 757s that they use for VP transport and press transport. I think the 787-10 will look great in the color scheme and then buy 747-8Is to replace Air Force One. That would show that America rules!!!!!!!!!

LN26 ZA231 VT-ANB finished re-work and is now parked in the Fuel Dock. This is 2nd frame built for Air India. Only one is still inside EMC, LN28 ZA232 VT-ANC which suffered wing damage few weeks ago. LN25 ZA230 VT-ANA is undergoing repaint in paint hangar.

LN22 ZA803 for Transaero should be moved inside EMC now with probably LN5 ZA005. After VT-ANC roll out they will probably move LN13 for Lion Air inside EMC.

LN5 was pushed outside again with tape around the cockpit windows. It might enter long-term storage.

LN26 ZA231 VT-ANB in the Fuel Dock. This frame has been repainted earlier, so change incorporation/re-work is done.

LN25 ZA230 VT-ANA has been moved back inside EMC - still some work to do left.

LN5 ZA005 is outside EMC, clearly undergoing re-work:

You can see 4 of them on the runway in the picture above of the 7 early 787s that are still in storage.

The other one is at the EMC, it's the 1st one for them to be reworked. Were it will stay for quite some time since it's only scheduled for delivery in 2015. Ask again in 1 year and the answer will most likely be a bit more interesting.
