Matt Cawby posted photo from EMC. VT-ANA is undergoing some work with the tail and VT-ANC is clearly under repair of wing around engine area. I wonder when these frames will be complete.
VT-ANA will be probably move to fligtline in January 2014 with delivery in February 2014. VT-ANC is rather mystery.

Why would Boeing keep 4 planes in storage and bring them out now all of a sudden? Makes no sense!

These frames are early 787 frames (pre-LN66) which needed going through change-incorporation/re-work process. Boeing started producing 787 frames before final certification specification has been achieved. All frames produced before line 67 underwent/undergoing/undergo re-work to met delivery specification. Boeing started re-working later frames, which needed less time to be finished, and earlier (older) frames are undergoing re-work now. 8 frames are still in storage and won't be delivered before 2015 (they need about 12 months of re-work); 7 are undergoing re-work now.
I thinks last frame from LN20-LN29 set will be ready in July 2014, with last terrible teen (LN9-LN19) in late 2015. 2 of test frames should be ready for delivery in 2014, with last one (LN4 ZA004) god only knows when.

It isnt something new. Change-incorporation/re-work programm is ongoing since early 2011. Only difference is time which frames spent inside EMC - movement is now very slow, LN20-29 set needs 7-12 months of re-work, with LN9-19 about 12 months inside EMC.

Jetstar's Boeing 787 to start Melbourne-Auckland flights

Jetstar will run one of its new Boeing 787 Dreamliners between Melbourne and Auckland next year.
However, the trans-Tasman 787 service will run for just one month, from February 26 to March 28, 2014, with seats now on sale.
"While many New Zealanders may not be planning a long-haul trip, this is a great opportunity to try out the aircraft that everyone's talking about, on a Tasman flight" said Jetstar's NZ chief Grant Kerr.
Jetstar's first Boeing 787 will begin international service on the Melbourne-Bali route from tomorrow, Wednesday December 18, after a month-long series of domestic flights between its Melbourne base and the Gold Coast and Cairns.

Qantas' low-cost offshoot received its second Boeing 787 over the weekend, with a third due to arrive in January. The airline says that by 2015 it will have a have a purely Boeing 787 international fleet.
Auckland is already served by a daily Boeing 787 flight – that being China Southern's service to Guangzhou – but this will be the Dreamliner's first trans-Tasman route.

LN125 ZA187 JA833J was delivered contractually yesterday, but will fly to Japan in January 2014.
China Southern want to take delivery of 3 787s this year:
LN36 ZA381 B-2726
LN104 ZA386 [email protected]
LN119 ZA387 [email protected]
if this will happen, then only 2 frames (one in FAL) will be left for fulfilling first order.

Hainan should take delivery of LN131 ZA435 B-2731. This will be 6th delivery for Hainan.
LN141 ZA560 A6-PFC for ILFC and LN142 ZA217 VH-VKD for Qantas can be delivered too.

I take it registration VH-VKC is already in use explaining why JQ's 3rd B788 is VH-VKD?

Norwegian will also get the 787-9.

Quote:
Norwegian Air to Lease 787-9 Dreamliner to Extend Reach

Norwegian Air Shuttle AS (NAS) agreed to lease two Boeing Co. (BA) 787-9 Dreamliners, adding larger models while expanding its long-haul fleet to 10 planes as the discount carrier broadens its reach into Asia and the U.S.

The aircraft, leased from Jordache Enterprises’ New York-based MG Aviation Ltd. unit, are scheduled to enter service in the first quarter of 2016, the Fornebu, Norway-based airline said in a statement today
http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2013-1...end-reach.html

It's a bit unclear where they will get their 787s from. MG Aviation doesn't have a known outstanding order, although they could be behind the Unidentified on the Boeing order books. They could also have bought some of the orders from other leasing companies. I believe that ILFC has already sold their 787-8s that are now flying with Norwegian to another company. They might have sold these 787-9s in advance instead of waiting for them to be delivered.

Ps. It's not the 1st 787 lease deal for MG Aviation, Arkia will also get 2 787-9s from this company.

Well QF have 50+ options which I really doubt are going to turn into firm orders.

There's no way any airline will lease planes from a company which hasn't bought firm delivery slots yet, especially for the 787. Qantas options only become available for firming up in 2015/2016 with delivery slots starting in 2017. Norwegian will get these 2 787-9s in 2016. They will come from one of the current firm orders, but from where exactly?

Jetstar takes B787s to Bali and Phuket

Jetstar will operate its new Dreamliners to Bali and Phuket from Sydney and Brisbane starting next year.

The low-cost carrier has been flying its new B787 aircraft on domestic routes, with its first international service – Melbourne–Bali – starting today.

Next year will see an expansion of international operations with the aircraft types, with a flyingfrom Brisbane to Bali from April, a new direct service for the carrier.

From January a Dreamliner will start flying from Sydney to Bali, while it will start servicing Phuket in January.

The airline will also take the aircraft from Melbourne – Auckland next year, but only on for a month during February and March.

Jetstar has already taken delivery of two Dreamliners, with a third joining the fleet in the New Year.
