There is an article on Airliners.net that is reporting that United Airlines will start 787-9 service to Melbourne Australia from Los Angeles starting on October 26 six times weekly. That is if all the certification and training is done by then. First 787-9 route for UA announced.

That's right. Move over VA, United is moving in!
Great news for MEL & UA.

To confirm the news regarding UA reintroducing nonstop services between LAX and MEL, here's the schedule posted on Airline Route:

UA098 LAX2130 – 0815+2MEL 789 4
UA098 LAX2230 – 0915+2MEL 789 x24

UA099 MEL1115 – 0650LAX 789 x46
UA099 MEL1515 – 1050LAX 789 6

UNITED Boeing 787-9 aircraft features 48 Business First, 204 Economy Class Seats (Including 63 Economy Plus). Reservation for this flight gradually opens on Wednesday night Pacific Time (so it should be open very soon). This flight will begin service on 26 October 2014 in conjunction with the start of the Winter 2015 schedules.

With this announcement, the current Sydney–Melbourne leg of the LAX–SYD–MEL route will be eliminated, and it will coincide with the airline down gauging the service from a B744 to a B772.

Source

My dream is, hopefully, UA will introduce nonstop SFO–MEL service too to provide a double-daily service to Australia from Northern California instead of cramming everything on the daily SFO–SYD service.

I went to San Francisco International Airport earlier when I was lucky enough to see this United Boeing 787 (reg, N26909) parked at the International Terminal. Taken using my Galaxy S4 phone.

After long, long time, Matt catched inside of EMC building.

LN28 ZA232 VT-ANC outside EMC. Looks complete, finally:

LN14 ZA802 for Transaero (former ZA503 JA809A for ANA) inside EMC. Should be completed late summer 2014.

Behind LN14 are LN5 ZA005 and LN146 ZB197 1st 789 for ANA. LN5 is really nice stripped I don't know what is going with this 789 for ANA, it is inside EMC for over 2 months. Probably a lot of work left undone on the FAL

And production of new frames doesn't look good. Some frames (like LN165 for Norwegian) has to be moved inside EMC, what isn't good situation for production nor re-work of early frames.

According to the Seattle Times, Boeing aims to stabilize 787 traveling work by LN195.

I vaguely remember reading somewhere the aircraft went tech and was awaiting parts being flown in from Boeing.

The will be line number LN190, it should be loaded into assembly in exactly 1 month. That means that it should roll out 1 month later at the end of April.

ROUTES: Avianca expects first 787 in September

Avianca will receive its first Boeing 787 in September, and hopes to deploy it on commercial service in November.

The Star Alliance carrier plans to operate the aircraft on routes within the Americas first, as it focuses on getting its flight crew used to the new type, says Avianca’s executive vice president and chief revenue officer Estuardo Ortiz.

“We will start off with Bogota to Lima, to Buenos Aires. But our real intent is to fly it to Europe, to Madrid, Barcelona, London,” he tells Flightglobal on the sidelines of Routes Americas in San Salvador. Ortiz says the airline hopes to deploy the 787 to Europe by early 2015.

The carrier announced recently it will resume non-stop service between Bogota and London Heathrow from July, operating on the route four times weekly with Airbus A330 aircraft initially.

Avianca will take delivery of four 787s by end-2014, and aims to operate three on revenue service by the end of the year, says Ortiz.

The airline has orders for 15 787s in total.

Should be an interesting livery on the 787 since they switched liveries to the euro white and the color on the tail. Any one have a mock 787 in the new colors?
