I just flew on BA's 787 and have to say I'm not really that impressed.
On one hand it is new, fresh with bigger windows and much better entertainment system but...
Let's start with the windows. They keep advertising how great difference it is. However all the extra window surface is extending the view up rather than down. Pointless for many people.
Then BA really crammed maximum possible number of seats in its economy class. I felt way more crammed than in their old 747s, 777s, Delta's 767s or even 737. Only Ryanair or Wizz feel more claustrophobic.
At least seats themselves were comfortable.
The biggest problem however were the toilets. Simply not enough of them and really stupidly located. There were often queues and there was no really place to wait anywhere close.
There were only 6 toilets on board while for example LOT put 10 of them on their 787s.
In that respect nothing beats 747 with its battery of toilets at the back and some space to stretch the legs.
Seating at the back I could also see that crew struggled in the galleys, they seems to be as cramped as the rest of the plane.
Overall it was interesting to try, I did feel fresher due to higher humidity and pressure but I absolutely hate BA's layout.

Air Canada 1st 787 (LN160 ZA610 C-GHPQ) test flight:

And put it together quickly video. Notice, movement on the final assembly line is around LN45 ZA261 ET-AOP for Ethiopian, just simply with computer graphic changed title and color of rudder

Delivery flight of SP-LRF for LOT will probably occur 1st May.

LN28 ZA232 VT-ANC was rolled out from FAL late November 2010.

7th November 2010: It is behind LN27 ZA178 JA824J which is being rolled out from FAL. Next are LN29 ZA233 VT-AND and LN30 ZA234 VT-ANE, both are now in commercial service.

After rollout moved somewhere at PAE, appeared again painted in February 2011:

Later stored around PAE for nearly 2 years:

VT-ANC Aug 26 2012 by alevik123, on Flickr

Finally, February 2013 moved to outside position of the EMC for change incorporation/re-work. Moved inside in March 2013.

Spotted inside EMC June 2013. 3rd from left, first and 2nd are VT-ANA and VT-ANB, both already delivered to Air India.

VT-ANC has been repainted in September 2013. Nearly completed outside EMC:

And then, shit happen. Wing structure has been damgaed due to hydraulic line failure during testing inside EMC. Nobody knew when it will be repaired and ready to fly. Disappeared again inside EMC.

December 2013, inside EMC behind VT-ANA:

In January 2014 it has been moved outside EMC for next paint job. After that moved again inside EMC:

Finally completed, 14th March 2013 moved to flightline:

1st April in the Fuel Dock:

15th April initial engines run:

25th April taxi test:

and 26th April 2014 finally in the air for first time. This is the last early frame for Air India, and last delivery to original customer. Due to all problems with traveled work and finishing 787-9 production frames inside EMC, we probably see one more, maybe 2 early frames flying this year. It looks like RWY11-29 won't be empty for next 2 years.

Norwegian Air suspends talks to buy 20 new Boeing Dreamliners

OSLO, April 28 (Reuters) - Low-cost carrier Norwegian Air has put on hold talks to buy 20 new Dreamliners from Boeing because of a delay in receiving U.S. Department of Transportation approval for its long haul plans, Chief Executive Bjoern Kjos said in a letter.

The airline has applied to fly to the U.S. on an Irish license, wanting to take advantage of wider traffic rights offered by the so-called open skies agreement between the EU and the U.S.

American labour unions and competing airlines have voiced strong opposition to the plan and the U.S. Department of Transportation has yet to decide on Norwegian's application.

"Unfortunately, the delay in the DOT process has given us no other choice than to put our ongoing negotiations with Boeing to purchase 20 new 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft - due to be registered in Ireland - on hold until Norwegian Air International's future in the U.S. has been decided," Kjos wrote.

Reviewing a few of the key details you mentioned versus what the seat config looks like on Seat Guru...

• 2-3-2 on Premium Economy
• 3-3-3 on Economy
• 4 toilets for both classes (except if you hop over to J class)

It seems that the BA B787 has missed a few marks on making passenger journeys comfortable. The four toilets for both classes definitely isn't enough to take care of a crowd of people (like the ratio seems to be 1:45 passengers instead of 1:17.5 passengers for J class toilets), and for long-haul journeys, it seems to be a bit claustrophobic given the "cramped" nature of its seating pattern. Definitely needs some improvements, especially on adding another toilet to bring the ratio down to 1:36 to make the wait a little easier...

And by the way, what's an ideal ratio of toilets per passenger on a standard aircraft, especially for Y class, and up to how many toilets can be installed on a B787? It seems that the rear portion of BA's B787 is dedicated nearly exclusively to food preparation.

BA 787

> It seems that the BA B787 has missed a few marks on making passenger journeys comfortable.

As you say, it is the BA configuration that is at fault. Each carrier specifies their own seating and toilet configurations.

Perhaps Boeing should specify some minimal requirements, otherwise passengers will tend to blame the 787 and not the carrier.

And now it has been repositioned to Charleston.

It will probably be delivered from there next month together with the LN158.

Another candidate for the Terrible Teens? The rumored delivery date is a bit far out though.

Italy's Neos to replace B767s with B787s?

Neos (NO, Milan Malpensa) is reportedly close to ordering "one or two B787s" as replacements for its long-haul fleet of two B767-300(ER)s. Sources in the Italian airline industry claim an official announcement for the order, which could also include options for an additional Dreamliner, could come as early as next week.

Delivery of the jets would likely be for the first half of 2018.

It will be built in Everett, so Boeing finally switched Qatar's frames production from CHS to Everett.

May could be good month for 787 deliveries. Most of produced frames are behind wing fix and traveled work, so even 15-18 deliveries are possible. We should see the last delivery to China Southern, LN172 ZA389.
