Sorry if it's a trite question, but I always wondered about it. Maybe it was answered on these pages sometime in the past.

Since the fourth and sixth aircraft off the 787-9 assembly line (production aircrafts ready for delivery to ANA and United) joined the certification program before their handover, but the fifth (first delivery 787-9 to Air New Zealand) aircraft didn't, do the mentioned airlines receive these birds somewhat cheaper than for egsample Air New Zealand?

So what I'm trying to ask is do OEMs (eg Boeing or Airbus) give a discount for a customer buying a (production, not in test configuration) plane used in the certification process?

Forced landing in Budapest. Due to technical problems with the Qatar Dreamliner landed yesterday in Budapest.

Absolutely, they do give discounts on those certification planes, especially if they'll be bought with the same engines. Those planes clock some serious flight hours and I doubt anybody will pay the same price as the new off the production line. They also get discounts to reconfigure the interior.

Korean Air will take up LN11 ZA841. So we will see first re-engined, or rather first change of engines' pylons on the 788.

They did place a strange order for 1 787-8 last year after earlier converting all their previous 787-8 orders into the 787-9. I wonder what they will do with it. Use it together with some some more leased 787-8s (ALAFCO should still have some available) or directly buy some more from Boeing. Or turn into a special or a VIP Jet, for the Korean government?

Either way, it makes my Korean Air 787-8 model that I bought for cheap some years ago actual again.

LN26 ZA231 VT-ANB Air India delivered from Charleston.

This is the last one of the early 787s that will go to it's original customer. It was loaded into final assembly in august 2010, now almost 4 years later it's delivered.

LN28 ZA232 VT-ANC

LN14 inside EMC. I wonder in whose hands this plane will end. It looks like Boeing can find customers for terrible teens from current 788 orders. There are few orders for 1-3 frames and these customers could be interested in getting their dreamliners earlier than waiting for newly build ones.

That 787 was a throw in by Boeing when KE was ordering 748

The US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has urged the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to conduct new tests on Boeing 787 Dreamliner batteries, in response to two incidents last year.

Boeing Receives 330-Minute ETOPS Certification for 787s

EVERETT, Wash., May 28, 2014 /PRNewswire/
The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration today approved additional extended operations (ETOPS) for the Boeing 787 Dreamliner. The move will allow 787s to be operated up to 330 minutes from a landing field and signals continued confidence in the airplane's technical capabilities.

Dreamliners have been allowed to operate up to 180 minutes away from a landing field since they were introduced into service in 2011. Granting of the expanded operational permission will allow airlines to introduce additional routes after they meet the proof of capabilities requirements and receive approval from their own regulatory agencies for such operations.

"Our customers are eager to expand their 787 operations," said Larry Loftis, vice president and general manager, 787 program, Boeing Commercial Airplanes. "We're delighted that this capability, which was designed into the airplane from the very beginning, has been certified."

ETOPS operations will make the 787 even more efficient in operations as they enable more direct flight paths, which can save thousands of pounds of fuel and reduce carbon emissions.

More than 1,030 787s have been ordered by 60 customers to date. Boeing has delivered 146 Dreamliners to 19 customers.

The 787 Dreamliner is a super-efficient twin-jet airplane that offers passengers a unique flying experience with bigger windows, cleaner air, a lower cabin altitude and higher humidity.

P.S. Matt should be on alert, when LN11 will be moved from the EMC to paint hangar - this could be only chance to catch 787 in ANA's livery with GEnx engines
