Boeing has a huge backlog of planes which should have been delivered in 2008/2009/2010 which are just sitting on the taxiway until the 787 gets certified.

The plane you see must have been finished in 2009/2010 before JAL changed its logo.

Boeing 787 Dreamliner Completes Flight Testing for Type Certification

EVERETT, Wash., Aug. 17, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Boeing (NYSE: BA) completed all flight tests required for type certification of the 787-8 Dreamliner with Rolls-Royce engines this weekend. The all-new jetliner is bringing unprecedented levels of fuel economy, maintenance cost improvements, and environmental sensitivity to the marketplace through the use of new technologies including composites, more-electric systems, advanced aerodynamics and the latest advancements in propulsion.

"We are very pleased with the performance of the airplane during the Function & Reliability and Extended Operations testing over the last month," said Scott Fancher, vice president and general manager of the 787 program. "The Dreamliner continues to demonstrate that we will indeed deliver a truly revolutionary airplane that will be a game changer in the marketplace."

The final flight occurred Saturday onboard ZA102, the ninth 787 to be built. Capt. Mike Carriker, chief pilot for the 787 program, brought ZA102 back to its home base at Paine Field in Everett at 1:58 p.m. (Pacific time) following a 90 minute flight that originated in Billings, Mont. During the flight, the 14-person crew completed simulations of a dispatch with a failed generator and failed fuel flow indication.

"When ZA102 returned to Paine Field, it brought back with it the hopes and dreams of the many thousands of men and women of Boeing and our global partners who have worked so long for this day," Fancher said. "Their hard work and commitment to this amazing airplane has been a true inspiration. We look forward to making our first delivery to our good friends at ANA in September."

Flight testing continues for 787s with GE engines and for Boeing test points not related to certification.

The Boeing 787 Dreamliner features a wide array of passenger amenities including larger windows, cleaner air, higher humidity and a lower cabin altitude.

Boeing 787 Dreamliner to get FAA certification Friday

Posted on August 26, 2011 at 6:28 AM

SEATTLE -- After years of delays, Boeing's 787 Dreamliner is expected to be officially certified by the FAA Friday so it can start delivering the jet to customers.

It's a long awaited celebration for Boeing after finally completing thousands of hours of rigorous testing. The certification is scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. at Boeing's Everett factory. Boeing plans to celebrate with a special ceremony with employees and executives starting at 10 a.m.

The 787 is more than three years behind schedule after a string of problems with composite materials and global manufacturers.

Flying on the Boeing 787 Dreamliner

I had a chance to fly on the Boeing 787 Dreamliner. It's simply a phenomenal airplane!! From the second you step inside, you know you're on the first plane of the 21st century. The large entrance dome, the LED lighting, the carbon fiber, the large windows that dim with a push of a button, the remodeled storage bins that open 4 ways, the modern engines that reduced noise, fully-electronic controls, the huge fuel efficiency. This plane takes us into the next era of aviation.

This was a 7 hour flight from Everett, WA over Montana then going down the Oregon and California coast and then back up to Everett. This was the one of the last test flights before Boeing got certification for the 787.

This plane is for All Nippon Airways (ANA), the launch customer for the 787. This particular plane was the 9th one built and the second that will be delivered.

When I usually do 5 hour flights, I come out feeling fatigued, irritated, and tired. Even though this was a full flight that was 7 hours long, when I stepped out, I did not feel fatigued at all and definitely did not feel like I had been on a plane for 7 hours. This is probably due to the fact that the 787 has more cabin pressure than any other plane, which reduces jetlag.

Boeing has really gone all out to make this plane and it's a truly phenomenal product. I'm happy to have been a part of it!

Quite hard to define 'better'. On some aspects the 787 will win on others the a350 will but from a general perspective, they will probably be about the same.

Since both planes are targeting different areas of the market is is pointless to compare sales.

Anyway, great pics of the 787 and congrats to Boeing for finally getting it to work properly!

Thanks for the pics, although apart from the cabin resembling a miami disco with those lights, I wouldn't be able to tell the difference with any other two-aisle plane (apart from the A380, whose walls are for obvious reasons very different).
