Associated Air Center Inducts First Boeing 787-8 VVIP Completion Aircraft Program for Head of State Customer at Dallas Love Field Facility

Tempe, Ariz. – October 14, 2014 – Associated Air Center (AAC) inducted the company's first Boeing 787-8 aircraft to be completed for a Head of State customer at AAC facilities located at Dallas Love Field. The aircraft arrived on October 9.

AAC announced the contract award in January of this year and since that time has been performing planning, staffing, training, design, engineering, manufacturing and facility construction activities in anticipation of the aircraft's arrival. Monuments and furnishings for the interior configuration have already been completed ahead of the green aircraft's arrival and will be ready for installation once the supporting structure, wiring, plumbing and sound insulation have been installed on the aircraft. Interior design for the 787 program is being conducted by AAC's well-seasoned, in-house design team.

"The composite structure and advanced systems on the 787 require special engineering, tooling and technical capabilities – it's a whole new ball game," said James Colleary, President, Associated Air Center. "Our team is up for the challenge and excited to have the aircraft in our shop where the real work now begins."

The VIP-configured 787-8 offers 2,404 square feet (223.3 square meters) of cabin space and a range of 9,590 nautical miles (17,760 km). AAC plans the redelivery of the completed aircraft by the end of 2015.

Associated Air Center provides world-class program management and ODA certification authority to keep airplane programs on schedule and provides industry-leading experience and warranty support after delivery. The company's vertically-integrated, state of the art facility employs the most advanced engineering in the industry along with operational excellence and superior customer service from start to finish.

LN240 ZB127 9V-OJA 1st 789 for Scoot in the Fuel Dock:

http://kpae.blogspot.com/2014/10/pai...ctober-17.html

LN12 outside the EMC. This frame should be moved inside the EMC next week, after LN11 roll out:

Around KPAE 10-16-14 by moonm, on Flickr

ZB021 3rd 789 test frame undergoing re-work, will be delivered to JAL. LN11 with engines is visible behind.

Around KPAE 10-17-14 by moonm, on Flickr

ZB002 N789FT was moved to flightline. I think this movement was forced by shifting frames around the EMC, LN11 will be rolled out in Monday, Ln12 will go inside the EMC, probably LN14 will be moved on another position inside the EMC, as it will be next one to be rolled out to flightline.

That's partly true... you've also got the A350 as well in the works. Not to mention, the A330 project keeps improving with the A330NEO program underway. And, even though not all airlines will operate the B787 over time, I'm sure that the largest carriers will operate at least a few of them. I was even surprised that AZAL Azerbaijan Airlines will operate a handful of them too...

AZAL Azerbaijan Airlines B787-8 (reg. unknown)

I'd say A330neo offering from Airbus is just medium term solution for them. Major selling point is its lower priced compared to 787. But in the long run, say 10 years, A330neo will be obsolete, as i'm sure 787 will keep improving with latest PIPs and enhancement. A330neo will likely nears its maximise improvement as it was primarily designed in the 90s.

787, A350 and 777x are the widebodies of the future. And will soldier on for the next 20 years.

Why do you predict for the 777X a bright future while on the other hand you claim that the A330neo has no perspective?

I would like to remind you that both the 777 and the A330 were developed in the same period of time with first flights in the years 1992 for the A330 and 1994 for the 777.

Conclusion: In the near future Airbus and Boeing will have two airplane types in this segment each. A brand new one (A350 and 787) and one heavily modernised (A330neo and 777X).

The 777X is a much more significant upgrade/redesign than the A330neo (including a completely new wing design.)

The 787 is optimized and marketed primairly for long range routes.

The A330neo, on the other hand, is marketed for medium range routes, and is said to be competitive to the 787, especially on high density routes. So, right there, you can see that both aircrafts are not exactly aimed at the same markets.

Airlines already operating large fleets of A330 might prefer opting for the A330neo rather than a newer and completely different aircraft : the after sales and maintenance facilities are already well developed and the cost for training employees and reorganizing maintenance and operations are minimal.

Although, in the end, the A350 and the 787 might end up with more orders than the A330neo, the latter will have a short and quick development phase and I'm pretty sure Airbus will generate a fair load of money out of this aircraft. Just look at all the airlines that publicly requested Airbus to make this plane.
