Some news from the EMC. Bad one - sneaky Boeing workers moved LN11 to paint hangars sometime without any witnesses.

LN11 is probably on the flightline now:

KPAE 10-22-14 Very Wet Day by moonm, on Flickr

LN22 finally moved inside the EMC. This is last unfinished frame from LN20-29 producton block:

LN12 outside the EMC:

LN139 ZB021 JA861J (3rd 789 test frame) temporarly moved outside the EMC, when LN11 and LN22 have been moved:

LN246 ZB028 G-VAHH 2nd 789 outside the EMC. As you can see, one engine is missing and there is no WiFi sat antenna. They have to finish work in the EMC:

Just a question: will VS' B787-9s have WiFi on board its aircraft? And by the way, which B787s have WiFi transmitters installed on them?

Yep, Virgin will get WiFi on all 789s.

787 with WiFi?
- all Qatar's 788s
- all United's 789s
- United last 788 - LN238 ZA296 N30913 (existing 788 fleet will get WiFi in 2015)
- all Scoot's 787s (both -8 and -9, for now 1st frame LN240 ZB127 9V-OJA)
- all American's 787 (both -8 and -9, for now on first 788 LN240 ZA817 N800AN)
- 1st 788 for Azerbaijan Airlines (LN211 ZA740)

Probably JAL will install WiFi on 789s, but I'm not sure.

Boeing: Kenya Airways’ Dreamliners are the world’s best performing

October 24, 2014 at 1:23pm

23/10…The national carrier Kenya Airways, has broken new operating efficiency ground following the ranking of its recently acquired fleet of Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft among other global airlines.
According to a mid-term technical evaluation report by Boeing- the aircraft manufacturers- Kenya Airways, fleet of five 787 Dreamliner planes received by early October have been performing at an operations reliability rate of 99.4% making KQ at number one among Dreamliner Airline operators in terms of scheduled interruptions.
The technical report further confirms that, at such an operations reliability score, the Kenya Airways fleet is performing way above the current 787 Dreamliner fleet average reliability performance rate of 98% for such models operating globally.
Boeing attributes this to Kenya Airways’ approach of dedicated engineering and maintenance teams that have ensured that the 787 is well maintained according to Boeing recommendations and best industry practices, which has allowed Kenya Airways to enjoy superb reliability on the 787 fleet.
“We are delighted at this ranking which effectively means that our guests on the Dreamliner routes are now enjoying exceptional on time performance from Kenya Airways with minimum delays,” explained Kenya Airways incoming CEO Mr. Mbuvi Ngunze. “This technical report also confirms the viability of our ongoing fleet renewal programme which is expressly geared at guaranteeing our capacity to deliver quality and reliable services to our guests,” Ngunze added.
Alongside Kenya Airways, Boeing has lined up 79 deliveries this year, up from 65 deliveries made last year to key customers including Air Canada, Air India, Air New Zealand, Royal Brunei, and Royal Jordanian among others.
Having already received 6 Boeing 787 aircraft this year and with 3 more expected up to mid next year, KQ is enjoying greater range, improved fuel efficiency, outstanding passenger comfort and experience.
With the wide-bodied planes deliveries and growing reliability, Kenya Airways will also be exploring new markets while providing its passengers with revolutionary comfort.
The 787 is the world's most technologically advanced airplane with composite materials making up 50 percent of the primary structure by weight, including the fuselage and wing. In addition to bringing big-jet ranges to midsize airplanes, the 787 is now providing Kenya Airways with unmatched fuel efficiency, using 20 percent less fuel than today's similarly sized airplanes
The deliveries of additional 787s, along with 777-300ER (Extended Range) airplanes, forms part of the East African carrier's 10-year strategic plan to expand its fleet. The plan is focused on increasing the airline's fleet size and expanding its destinations.Kenya Airways currently has the youngest fleet in Africa.

And guess where the majority are made!

Wow the global average is 98%? That is very bad indeed for by modern standards.

To be honest ... there is only 1 airline that has had a ton of issues with the 787. That Airline is Air India. Everyone else has been fine.

LN237 ZA197 JA836J was moved from the paint hangar to EMC Bay AW. LN231 ZA196 JA838J is outside the EMC.

LN222 ZA195 JA837J spent some time in the EMC too, much more than is needed to finish traveled work.

I think Boeing is reconfiguring these frames to new JAL's sky suite configuration. JAL announced it in September, when these frames were undergoing final assembly. They want to fly first of them in December, so JA837J is scheduled for delivery in November. Everything fits well.

Quote:
Japan Airlines is tweaking its Boeing 787 fleet with new business class SkySuites as well as premium economy, in the process slashing the size of the current economy cabin by over one-third.

The new design Dreamliners will be decidedly premium-heavy, with 38 business class suites and 35 premium economy seats, leaving only eleven rows of 88 economy seats (arrayed 2-4-2 instead of the current 3-3-3).

Japan Airline's first Boeing 787s joined the JAL fleet less than three years ago.

The airline says that newly-delivered Boeing 787-8 and 787-9 jets will get the three-class configuration and will be flown "mainly on international medium and long haul routes."

The first of these will be Narita-Frankfurt from December 2014, followed by Narita-New York from January 2015.

"We plan to introduce about 10 Boeing 787-8s as JAL SKY SUITE 787" a spokesman for Japan Airlines told Australian Business Traveller.

LN227 ZA681 B-2769 KBFI landing and departure during delivery flight:

Something interesting about LN11:
Quote:
Line 11 on the flight line with new engines. This 787 will be going to Korean Airlines. It will be departing for Texas to be painted.
https://www.flickr.com/photos/woodys...s/15617249611/

So she will fly to KFTW for repainting. This could be only once chance in life to see ANA's livery 787 with GEnx-1B engines flying

Flightglobal reports, quoting Akbar Al Baker that the airline even took delivery of 3 787s and 1 777 on Monday. Making it the largest delivery on 1 day ever in the history of commercial aviation.
http://www.flightglobal.com/news/art...me-day-405368/

This means that they also took delivery of LN225 ZA477 A7-BCR. One of these 3 was the 200th delivered 787, the other 2 #201 and #202.

I think that Norwegian Long Haul has a thing or two to say about that.

Just today the plane from CPH to LAX was 4-5 hours delayed and theh have have rented one of LOT's 787 and some older 340'ies from a Portuguese company just to maintain normal service.
