I love the new business class of Vietnam, very plush-like with cozy colours. Economy though looks like the old bus IMHO.

So they have people sitting backwards? I find this strangely disconcerting, even though I know it's actually safer.

Interesting, yesterday, i read this tweet :

Quote:
Alan Peaford @Grandpois · 11 fιvr.

@FlyRwandAir decision in the next few weeks for Dreamliner or A330 to fulfil Asian and European ambitions.
Alan Peaford is the Editor of Arabian Aerospace African Aerospace and UK's ADS Advance. He''s currently in Rwanda, probably to prepare the African Aviation Summit that will take place at Dubai, in May 2015. Girma Wake, the RwandAir chairman will be among special guests.

It's possible, but this order was placed before February 10th. It could be any airline (or leasing company, or BBJ customer).

That's the configuration called "herringbone", in which, indeed, some passengers will seat backwards from the flight deck. It may be strange at first, yet some airlines have used it on their aircraft as well. Some examples:

- Air Canada B777-200LR
- Air Canada B787-8
- Air France B777-200ER (3-class, V2)
- Air New Zealand B777-300ER
- Air New Zealand B787-9 - 1-1-1 seating configuration, allowing all-access to and from the cabin
- Virgin Atlantic A340-600 - has both front and reverse seating config for J class

Another strategy used for J class would be the "staggered" seating, meaning, instead of a traditional 1-2-1 order of seats (or 2-2-2), you will instead see a scatter of seating layouts (a most common being 2-2-1, 1-2-1, and so on). Some examples:

- Air Canada B777-300ER (new) (you have a 2-2-2, then 1-2-1, alternating)
- Asiana A380 (kept its 1-2-1 config for J class, but structured a little differently)
- ANA B787-8 (V1) (1-2-1 seating all throughout J)
- Swiss International Airlines A340-300 (1-2-1, 2-2-1 layout)

And following up on the first B787 by American Airlines, from Business Traveler:

American to fly B787-8 to Beijing and Buenos Aires
Quote:
American Airlines has announced the first routes its new B787-8 Dreamliner will operate.

The US carrier, which took delivery of the aircraft last month will first fly the B787-8 between Dallas/Fort Worth and Chicago O'Hare from May 7. The route was announced in January as a B777-200ER service last January.

The Dreamliner will then be launched internationally between Dallas/Fort Worth and Beijing Capital International on June 2. rom June 4, American will deploy the B787-8 from Dallas/Fort Worth to Buenos Aires' Ministro Pistarini International Airport.

The airline said it will announce further Dreamliner destinations for 2015 in due course, as it takes delivery of more aircraft. It has ordered 42 B787-8s and B787-9s, with the option for a further 58.

To be clear American's is the only herringbone business class that has backwards facing seats, Virgin, Air New Zealand etc. are all forward facing, angled toward the aisle seats. It's also the first product that has both "herringbone" and "reverse herringbone" (a la Cathay Pacifc) seats in the same cabin, which give the greatest variety of options, although I really can't see a major advantage over a standard reverse herringbone layout which takes up the same amount of space and is generally the most preferred layout by passengers.

Ah I see. Can you help me find particular aircraft that feature the reverse herringbone layout since I cannot find them quickly on Seatguru, please?

In the meanwhile, I've read this article which features the nearly 20 different seating layouts found in most airlines... I find this as a reference source that I can use to figure out which seats are what, and which are best to be installed by airline.

Cathay Pacific 77W/A333, Delta A330s/747-400, US Airways/American a330s, Qatar a380/787, American 77W, Air Canada 787 all have reverse herringbone seats.

Cathay Pacific, Qantas and British Airways first class could also be described as reverse herringbone seats.
