I thought of BA... the seats in F, though, are also forward facing, while J has the "saw" pattern (1 forward, 1 reverse)

- B747-400 (V2) -- similar to V1, but more J seats
- B777-300ER
- B787-8

Not their business class, their First Class is reverse herringbone, their business class I would call a forwards/backwards, like United's pre merger business class seat.

Also, a business class type not on that of yours would be the B/E Apex seat which JAL, Oman Air and Korean Air are now using, which staggers apart instead of together to allow direct aisle access in a 2-2-2 or 2-3-2 layout.

Looks like I will need to learn the finer details of such seats... the various seating types can be confusing, especially if I wanna study each of their aspects based on Seatguru.

And by the way, which other airlines that operate the B787 now, do you think, will follow AA's lead in herringbone and reverse herringbone seating in J?

LN139 is actively being worked on. They have the engine cowling's open and are doing work inside.

As for LN 14, I can't tell if anything new has been done, but will grab some pictures of it tomorrow

My source confirmed LN 11 is scheduled for a B1 weather permitting tomorrow, if not for sure on Sat.

I'm not sure if anyone else will adopt this particular type on 787's in the near future:

-JAL, Korean Air and Oman Air are all installing Apex seats across their longhaul fleets.

- Air Canada, Delta, Air France Qatar, Vietnam Airlines, and Avianca are all going reverse herringbone on their 787's and I can't imagine any of them will introduce a new product for quite some time.

-Air New Zealand and Virgin Atlantic are pretty deadset on herringbone seats for everything.

-Etihad has their new forward/backwards staggered seat like on their a380s

-While British Airways certainly needs to redesign their business class product, they seem to be heading more in a herringbone direction by all accounts.

-The other customers with orders seem likely to go for an off the shelf product (Thompson Vantage XL, B/E Diamond etc, Zodiac Aura etc), rather than go the custom route like American.

Also if you want to get into the details of a given seat it's not a bad idea to look at the designer's info on their work:

If anyone was wondering what routes the all-black (i.e. first) ANZ dash nine was flying, one of them is Auckland-Shanghai. Here she is on the tarmac at PVG (Shanghai Intl.).

Flight 286 to Auckland was the next flight scheduled to depart from my gate (DL 582) on Wednesday afternoon:

No B1 flight for LN11 today. Still doing work on it.

Also LN 139 was moved from EMC to the flight line.

All right, here's something from @airlineroute on Twitter:

Quote:
KLM on Thursday (12FEB15) opened seat selection for Boeing 787-9. Configuration J30Y264. Economy is 3-3-3
Looks like the 3-3-3 configuration is becoming the standard with the B787 family... I hope other airlines will consider a more comfortable 2-4-2 configuration instead of a 3-3-3.

No, it isn't becoming. It is standard since 2012. JAL is only carrier that still put 2-4-2 in economy, all others are going with 3-3-3. Even ANA is reconfiguring their earlier 787 fleet to 3-3-3.

I understand adding one more seat will add in extra revenue for airlines, but does that sacrifice comfort on board, especially for long flights? Not to mention, the person in the middle seat (especially for window seats) will always get bothered if someone from the window seat will have to move in and out...

It's quite obvious.
Economy class isn't about comfort of passangers. In this class revenue per cost of passanger in long haul is smallest, so sqeezing as much as possible is the best way of increasing revenue. 2nd positive side is every one additional passanger who decide to buy premium economy or business class ticket due to that uncomfortable seats in economy. With nearly the same cost for airline, revenuse is much higher.

Right... that's why I see the 3-4-3 seating layout on Y with the B744 and B777. By the way, can a 3-4-3 layout be done on a B787, or will it be too tight?
