Thanks! So Ethiopian will be operating 2 types of engines on 787 as first airline in the world.
Any info about LN14 roll out date?

Isn't LN 14 & 22 going to Air Austral? That's what my engine guy told me.

Boeing 787-9 orders are now over 500, but it's still unconfirmed on Boeing website.

This makes sense ...airlines wanting the -9 over the -8. The -9s you seem to be getting the most value for what you are spending.

and its another way boeing can grow revenue. ( I doubt they simply let airlines switch from -8s to -9s for free)

There are rumours that Qatar could potentially opt for changing remaining 15 aircraft in their option pool to -9 version.
Could anyone confirm it?

Thanks

I think in the end, most of the 787 production will be split between the 787-9 and 787-10--and the 787-10 will replace many (eventually) aging 777-200ER's on routes under 6,800 nautical miles long. It could be enormously popular for flights between western Europe and the USA and South America and the USA.

There hasn't been any official confirmation that these will go to Ethiopian. And from Ethiopians earlier claims they will lease they might not even be the company that places the order.

Patience,

@N4865G
With Qatar it's simple, as long as it hasn't been turned into an actual firmed up, confirmed by Boeing order you don't know what they are going to do. Even when it's not just a rumor, but something claimed by the airline itself.

With Qatar even with signed contracts and things claimed by the manufacturers you don't know what they are going to do.

Order is still unconfirmed. Table already has been 2 times modified, one to Ethiopian frames then back to Unknown Customer. There are 2 options:
- Ethiopian and Boeing don't want show that before official announcement
- Customer is different

Variable numbers assigned now to that frames suggests that it might be top up order from Air Austral, but it is highly unlikely. Even if they change all their widebody fleet for 787s, then 8 frames still would be doubling their fleet. But who knows? They had pretty hard time with paying for 777-200LR and 777-300ER, planes are big and 787-8s will be cheaper to operate. They can plan to change strategy, fly to more destinations or more rotations with lower planes capacity. It is small airline and planes like 77W are probably hard to handle.
