ANA started the Haneda-Frankfurt route with the 787 today (ANA 203). Frankfurt is the 1st airport in Europe that had a commercial landing of this plane.

The plane is actually already back at Haneda. ANA 204 landed about 30 minutes ago, 5 minutes ahead of schedule.

There will be 5 flights in January, in February the service will go daily but still with a 777 operating on even days. From March it will go daily with a 787.

787-8 Tail fuel tanks are to be locked out of use after it was found that a failed support will cause a 'structural flutter'. This reduces the aircrafts fuel capacity by 3,300 gallons approx 400nm on VIP versions though Boeing say it wont make a significant impact on range when over 60% of the airframes MTOW.

Boeing 787 Dreamliner Named Aircraft of Legend

EVERETT, Wash., Jan. 27, 2012 – The Boeing 787 Dreamliner has been honored with the “Aircraft of Legend” Award presented by the Living Legends of Aviation organization.

Mike Sinnett, vice president and chief project engineer for the 787 program, accepted the award on behalf of the men and women of Boeing and the international team that created the Dreamliner.

“We’re honored to be named the first Aircraft of Legend,” said Sinnett. “It is recognition of the expertise, skill and dedication that has gone into the creation of this airplane and an inspiration we’ll always keep in front of us – it’s something to continue to live up to.”

Boeing 787 Dreamliner Stops at RFD

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- It’s not flying commercially yet in the United States, but that didn't stop the Boeing 787 from spending some time in Stateline skies today.

23 News Anchor Mike Garrigan was able to climb aboard the new Dreamliner today at the Greater Rockford Airport and can honestly say that the experience even exceeded his lofty expectations.

Rockford is one of a handful of cities in the united states to experience what it's like to dream big.

Boeing VP of 787 Engineering Mike Sinnett said, "It was very important for us to try to restore some of the magic of flight.”

Boeing's 787 Dreamliner makes a three day stop at RFD allowing Hamilton Sundstrand employees, government officials, and the media a first hand look at the inside of the plane that is as bold as it is big.

Sinnett said, "We wanted to make sure that we put some things into the airplane that couldn't be taking away by the airlines over time. Things like lower cabin altitude, bigger windows, smoother ride, better lighting"

As you can see it's the amenities that make this plane so incredible, but it's the efficiencies that Boeing hopes to make the success of the 787 so sustainable.

Hamilton Sundstrand President of 787 Systems Robert Leduc said, "Operating costs of the airplane are about 10 percent lower than the operating costs of airplanes it replaces. It burns about 20 percent less fuel. It's got maintenance costs that are about 30 percent lower and it's got about 40 percent more range. The only real thing that airlines can control is costs. And given how fuel efficient this airplane is and how low its maintenance costs are, anyone that flies it will have a distinct competitive advantage."

Hamilton Sundstrand has a huge role in making this dream liner come true. In fact, the Rockford company is the single largest system supplier of the 787 in the world.

Leduc Said, "We basically touch from the windshield to the back of this airplane. We're responsible for everything from the rain removal system all the way back to the auxiliary power unit. We supply all the heat and all the air conditioning on board.”

At a cost of 200 million dollars per plane, over 800 have already been ordered, but only five right now are in service all in Japan.

Sinnett said United Continental will be the first to fly the plane domestically in the U.S, but he did not want to comment on when exactly that will be.

The 787 on the Haneda - Frankfurt route didn't really have a dream start.

ANA faces bumpy start to long-haul 787 service

All Nippon Airways first long-haul international service with its Boeing 787 has faced a rocky start since 21 January with two of its ten flights operating between Tokyo-Haneda and Frankfurt, Germany cancelled due to technical issues with the new aircraft, the airline confirmed.

The 26 January service was cancelled in Frankfurt when the aircraft's flap system failed, while the 30 January cancellation in Haneda was due to "a temporary failure of the computer software which monitors and controls the aircraft"

ANA's 787 faces bumpy service entry on Haneda-Frankfurt

By Jon Ostrower on February 1

ANA's first 787 flights with JA801A and JA802A on domestic flights within Japan have been nearly flawless, with a 96.3% on time reliability during its first months of service. For JA805A, the first 158-seat 787 in long-haul international configuration, the introduction on the Tokyo-Haneda to Frankfurt route, the first long-haul service, has been anything but smooth.

Quote:
All Nippon Airways first long-haul international service with its Boeing 787 has faced a rocky start since 21 January with two of its ten flights operating between Tokyo-Haneda and Frankfurt, Germany cancelled due to technical issues with the new aircraft, the airline confirmed.

ANA cancelled flight NH204 on 26 January and NH203 30 January. Other 787 flights to Germany operated on 21, 23, 26 and 28 January.

The 26 January service was cancelled in Frankfurt when the aircraft's flap system failed, while the 30 January cancellation in Haneda was due to "a temporary failure of the computer software which monitors and controls the aircraft", said ANA, adding "the aircraft has been repaired by replacing the computer's concerned parts and loading software."
Of the five 787 deliveries to ANA, JA805A, Airplane 31, delivered on December 30, is operating exclusively on the airline's long-range international flights.

This is a good question

1. ANA - 787 in service

2.JAL or Royal Air Maroc probably in February
3.Ethiopian Airlines should receive it mid March
4.Air India - ??
5.China Southern (July)

but if we go by the numbers:

Royal Air Maroc - ZA150 and ZA151 should be coming soon
JAL - ZA175 and ZA176
Air India - ZA230 and ZA231
Ethiopian Airlines - ZA260
China Southern - ZA381

many of these planes need Change incorporation and Re-work

Probably Japan Airlines in February, but the certification for the GEnx engines is not done yet which makes me doubt about february.
Impossible for RAM to be delivered in february, I don't believe Ethiopian in March either. The change incorporation is so strong, It's gonna be a challenge for Boeing.

Worker trapped under Boeing 787 tires is rescued

EVERETT, Wash. - An official at an Everett, Wash., airfield says emergency crews have rescued a worker who was temporarily trapped beneath the tires of a Boeing 787 jetliner.

Paine Field Airport Director Dave Waggoner tells KOMO-TV that the Japan Airlines plane was being towed Friday evening when a member of a Boeing ground crew was run over.

A helicopter transported the man to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for treatment of leg injuries. A Harborview spokesman said the worker was in serious condition late Friday.

ReaLarry Wilson of Boeing Commercial Airplanes said in a statement that Boeing will investigate and "will implement the necessary changes to avoid a future reoccurrence." Beyond that, Wilson provided no details on the worker or the accident.

Qatar CEO said they should recieve four, to five examples this year. I think he mentions one of they're examples are going to be attending the Farnborough Airshow then fly to Qatar after that.
