I could also see Etihad doing the same thing as Emirates, get more 777-200LRs. Only as a conversion for them instead of a completely new order.
I doubt boeing is too mad about those cancellations ..... those slots till quickly be refilled.

It's looks more and more like Etihad converted 15 787-9s to 10 777Xs.

Boeing will of course sell these slots to another customer, but it doesn't look like they are early slots.

Next week is the Paris Airshow, we should see some orders there filling these 15 up quite easily.

Boeing 787 Dreamliner wows with near-vertical takeoff

Boeing released a promotional video Thursday that shows off the plane's chops. The most stunning stunt is a near-vertical takeoff featuring the jet cruising along the runway and then climbing into the sky at a startling angle. It's the sort of thing that would have passengers clinging to their seat arms.

Press release from Boeing.

I didn't expect this one, good news indeed. They will most likely be replacing the A330s, this was really one for Boeing to win and for Airbus to lose.

Garuda will also place an A350 order, they will keep their mixed A & B widebody fleet and it's another operator of both 787 and A350.

Qatar just announced a 777X order, meaning that last weeks cancellation might not have anything to do with that order.

And unless they will have another announcement it also means that Qatar won't place a follow up order for the 787 this airshow.

edit: the Qatar order is new, it still looks very much like it was Etihad that converted the 787s for the 777X.

I wonder if we get some firm orders for the 787 in Paris.

Today Air Lease Corporation announced new long term lease contracts with Vietnam Airlines that converted the formerly contracted eight Boeing 787-9 aircraft to eight new Boeing 787-10s. These aircraft are from ALC’s order book with Boeing and deliveries are scheduled to begin in 2019 and continue through 2021. The Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner will be the largest aircraft in Vietnam Airlines’ fleet.

So the 787-10 gains another operator. Interesting developments with the 787.
