It's a regular sight, just not with a plane this size. So I don't think that people are scared, just surprised to see a plane bigger then a 737 on approach to the airport, if people actually notice the size of the plane. Even if this approach isn't the most regularly used because of noise restrictions. But it's the longest runway, it's the only option for 787, which as a bonus give it an opportunity for this kind of shots.

787 should have opted for 2-4-2 seat configuration instead 3-3-3. Seat width is smaller when compared to World liner and Jumbo

Boeing projected 2-4-2 seating during design phase of 787. First 787s (for ANA and JAL) were delivered with 2-4-2 economy. But airlines decided to put 3-3-3 economy and that is something what you can't deny - flight economy, costs and revenue.

777 was designed for 3-3-3 and airlines make it 3-4-3. Bear with it or pay more for Economy Premium or Business Class.

All to increase returns for shareholders (The sort that wouldn't fly in Economy anyway ) I'm glad the option to avoid 787s is still available from where I am.

Will Etihad do a bacon sandwich for that price? I didn't think so.

tullamarine I don't think Etihad (or Emirates for that matter) will do a bacon sandwich at any price!!! Qantas customers on Sydney/Melbourne-London lost bacon from the breakfast menu following the Emirates alliance.

BaconButty I finally understand the true horrors of globalization.

Guess later years by viewing traffic in mind these airline companies don't mind of placing 3-4-3 configuration in 787 by keeping profit as their prime target. Hope it wont.

Thanks, I didn't realise the airport was close proximity of the city. Wow that is an amazing sight! Love the B787 lines

Only a few years ago, DCA had a rigid restriction on flights: only those originating within 1,250nm of the airport can operate to and from it (the main exception was Denver). Now, with a slow, yet progressing deregulation, that airport now handles flights from select cities from the West Coast, including LAX, SFO, and San Diego.

Now, with the Dreamliner capable of landing at DCA, it can be pretty odd to see it operate there often, especially that the largest aircraft the airport currently handles would be the B757... Maybe, in the long run, it can also accommodate a modified version of the B787.
