Boeing Statement on EL AL Israel Airlines Intent to Purchase 787 Dreamliners

TEL AVIV, Aug. 5, 2015 – Boeing [NYSE: BA] is pleased that EL AL Israel Airlines has announced its intent to purchase and lease up to 15 787 Dreamliners, with purchase rights for 13 additional airplanes. When finalized, the order will be posted to the Boeing Orders & Deliveries website.

"We are honored that EL AL has selected the 787 for its fleet renewal plan,” said Boeing Commercial Airplanes President and CEO Ray Conner. “The Dreamliner will be an excellent addition to EL AL’s all-Boeing fleet and marks another chapter in a partnership between our two companies that spans over half a century.”

El Al already had a MoU for 10 788s which they placed in 2006 but that was never firmed.

This new order will be replacing their 767-300s, 777-200s and maybe even their 747s. This could mean that it will be a mixed order, maybe even all 3 versions. The 787 is pretty much the perfect aircraft family for them, no surprise that they are now finally placing this order.

With 2017 deliveries they could have taken advantage of the recent cancellations. It was rumored that as an all Boeing fleet they were also looking at the A350, the early delivery slots might have been the final reason to stay with Boeing. But politics will also have played a role here of course, El Al might now be a fully privatized airline, but with Israel the strong political ties with the US this will always play a role.

We will see how final order will look like.
With upcoming order from Qantas, 2015 should be good year for 787 family.
And Emirates order is still possible.

Lufthansa Technik to provide components to Air Europa’s 787 fleet

Spanish private airline Air Europa Lineas Aéreas (AEA) has awarded a contract to Lufthansa Technik to supply components for its 22 Boeing 787 aircraft.
The contract will commence from March 2016 with the addition of the airline's new 787 to its fleet.
The scope of work under the total component support (TCS) contract will cover the overhaul of airframe and engine-related components, and engineering services, as well as pooling and home base lease.

It's back as listed as still in assembly

But we don't get to see too many pictures out of Charleston recently anyway, it's hard to take pictures of the flightline there. Maybe we will get some snaps when it goes on a trip to get painted somewhere later this month.

From El Al's facebook

https://www.facebook.com/ELALAirline...53602180329905

The images show 3 versions, although the facebook message only talks about the 787-8 and 787-9. Just like their English press release, see below. Maybe the 13 options could included the 787-10. It will also be interesting to see how many will be ordered directly and how many will be leased.

http://www.elal.com/en/About-ELAL/Ab...er-060815.aspx

Quote:
Negotiations will be held with the Boeing Company for the purchase and lease of 15 new Dreamliner wide-body 787-8 and 787-9 aircraft and an option for the purchase of 13 additional planes. The First Aircraft Will Arrive in Mid-2017.

CEO David Maimon: “I am proud to announce the largest fleet renewal plan in the history of EL AL. The Board of Directors today approved negotiations with the Boeing Company for the purchase and lease of 15 aircraft during the coming five years. This step is expected to be a major breakthrough in optimization of our route network as well as in customer service and the flight experience.

"During the next five years, these aircraft will replace the 747-400 and 767 fleets. They are intended for EL AL's medium- and long-range destinations (New York, Boston, Toronto, Beijing, Mumbai, South Africa and other destinations). The Dreamliner, the most innovative and advanced aircraft in the world, have many operational advantages including fuel efficiency and low maintenance costs".

Leasing company Avolon revealed in their Q2 results that they made a sale-and-leaseback deal with Hainan Airlines for 5 787-9s.

http://avolon.aero/avolon-issues-201...arter-results/

Not that interesting news, these are very common deals. Where it for the fact that the 787s are from the still unidentified order from March 2015. Especially the delivery dates in 2016 and 2017 of these 5 planes make it interesting. When the Hainan order was announced it was for a delivery before 2021, but that clearly was the last delivery of the order. With 2016 and 2017 deliveries we now know that Boeing sold the cancelled slots by United and the Unidentified customer (probably Etihad, and before that Air Berlin), have been sold to Hainan and probably also El Al as they will also get 2017 deliveries.

The sale-and-leaseback deal is still pending a decision to have Bohai Leasing buy a 20% stake in Avolon. Bohai Leasing is a company under the HNA group, this makes me wonder if the split unidentified order for 24 + 6 787-9s, placed on the same day in March was actually Hainan Airlines placing an order for the 24 and Bohai Leasing for another 6. Back when it was announced it was expected that ALC was behind this order for 6, as they were reported to have placed a larger number of 787-9s with Hainan. But later it was revealed that it was only a deal for 2 planes, leaving the real customer open for speculation.

ps.
There are 2 other unidentified orders on the books. 13 787-9s placed in 2008, which was ordered by Saudi Arabia for Saudia the airline. The other is the recent order for 4 787-9s placed in June, which is likely to be Xiamen Airlines.
