Just now from Brunei national news; RB 787 had to turned back to Manila Ninoy Aquino on its return flight to Brunei last week due to left engine failing and shutting down. More inspection on the ground revealed that the other engine also shown the same anomaly (according to press release by Civil Aviation Dept and RB). RR will conduct inspection to all of RB 787-8 Trent 1000 engines, thus some flights using 787 will be disrupted in the next few days.

Wow... I didn't know that. Was that the afternoon flight out or the more frequent evening flight? I hope that aircraft gets fixed soon, especially that BI uses it on its flagship Begawan-Dubai-London flight.

And speaking of B787s, I finally spotted the R2D2 Jet yesterday at San Jose. The main challenge: it was windy next to the perimeter fence that my camera and my hand were shaking, struggling to get the perfect images.

Capa posted an analysis of Ethiopian on their website:

http://centreforaviation.com/analysi...ew-york-249034

Interestingly they mention that the airline also has 2 787-9s on order. But no such order, either directly with Boeing or with a Leasing company has been announced yet. This could be an unannounced lease, but it could also be the the unidentified order for 2 787-9s that was placed a couple of weeks ago.

There's also a mention of an upcoming order in the near future for 10 more 787s plus a 777-8 order (the 777 part was already mentioned by Ethiopian's CEO and picked up by the media recently).

Royal Brunei flights using Boeing 787 will be delayed or cancelled until 1st November due to inspection of RR Trent 1000 engines on all RB's Dreamliners

Quote:
ROYAL Brunei Airlines (RB) will face temporary flight disruption (in certain long-haul flights), following boroscope inspection for all its Rolls Royce Trent 1000 engines on the remaining three Boeing 787-8 aircraft operated by the flag carrier, RB said yesterday.

A list of flight delays and cancellations, which began on October 27 to November 1, is posted on the flag carrier’s website https://www.flyroyalbrunei.com.

RB released a statement saying the inspection followed the technical incident experienced by RB flight number BI 684 on October 21 from Manila Ninoy Aquino International Airport to Brunei International Airport, operated by a Boeing 787-8 aircraft powered by Rolls Royce Trent 1000 engines.

“The aircraft experienced an inflight shutdown on one of the engines, just after takeoff and in accordance with normal procedures the captain decided to return to Manila. The aircraft landed safely and without incident and all 152 passengers safely disembarked at the terminal,” the statement said.

Since then, Rolls Royce has conducted a detailed boroscope inspection of both engines as part of preparations to replace the affected engine, with a spare which has already been transported to Manila from Bandar Seri Begawan, RB said.

“However, in recent hours information has been conveyed to the airline by Rolls Royce that the second on wing engine on this aircraft has itself being the subject of similar damage. The boroscope inspection has now revealed evidence of damage to a number of blades on both engines, for reasons which are as yet unknown. At this point, there is no evidence that an external event such as a bird strike has caused this damage to both engines. Efforts to establish the cause of the damage by Rolls Royce are continuing, fully supported by the RB Engineering team,” RB said.

The airline has been in consultations with Brunei’s Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) concerning the flight safety and technical aspects of this incident.

“Following this consultation and in the interests of passenger safety, which is our primary concern above all other matters, a boroscope inspection will now be conducted for all Rolls Royce Trent 1000 engines on the remaining three Boeing 787-8 aircraft operated by RB. Of necessity, this inspection process will cause very severe disruption to RB scheduled services for the next number of days,” RB said.

In the statement, RB quoted its deputy chairman, Dermot Mannion, as saying: “We extend our sincere apologies to our loyal passengers for this disruption to their travel plans.

“However, we know our passengers will appreciate the safety reasons for which this difficult decision has had to be taken. Please rest assured that RB is working with Rolls Royce and Boeing, at the very highest level, to return our aircraft to normal operations, as quickly as possible.”

El Al has firmed up their 787 order.

http://boeing.mediaroom.com/2015-10-...eamliner-Order

9 Directly from Boeing:
4x 787-9
5x 787-8

6 Leased:
4x 787-9
2x 787-8

They also secured options for 7x 787-10.

source for exact numbers:
http://www.sponser.co.il/Article.aspx?ArticleId=61887

Engines will be RR:
http://www.rolls-royce.com/news/pres...0-engines.aspx

Based on the fact that they will also lease 787-8s it's most likely that they will lease them from AerCap.

First deliveries are scheduled for 2017.
