Air Lease Corporation Announces Lease Placement of Four New Boeing 787-9s and Two New Boeing 787-10s with EVA Air

Air Lease Corporation (NYSE: AL) announced long term lease agreements with EVA Air (Taiwan) for four new B787-9s and two new B787-10s. These aircraft are from ALC’s Dreamliner order book with Boeing and will deliver from mid-2018 through early 2020. These placements will bring the number of new Boeing widebody aircraft that EVA Air will lease from ALC to ten, including four B777-300ERs already contracted.

“ALC is extremely pleased to conclude these important placements with EVA Air, one of the premier international airlines in Asia. EVA Air is a significant customer for ALC in the Asia Pacific region and these lease placements underline our commitment to EVA Air’s successful growth,” said Jie Chen, Air Lease Corporation’s Executive Vice President and Managing Director, Asia.

This comes days after ALC announced the lease placement of 2 787-9s with El Al for delivery in late 2017 & 2018.

http://airleasecorp.com/2015/12/14/a...ft-with-el-al/

ALC's press release on the EVA deal.

http://airleasecorp.com/2015/12/16/a...-with-eva-air/

The 787-9 for EVA was rumored before, but wasn't mentioned at all when they placed their direct order with Boeing. EVA is a keen customer of leasing companies, this won't be the last announcement of a 787 lease placement with EVA.

Lot's of lease activity is good for Boeing's order book, as the leasing are likely to place more orders when they have no problems finding customers. It's too bad that AerCap, as the biggest lessor customer of the 787 doesn't announce their deals like ILFC did before the take-over (by AerCap), or like ALC still does, with full press releases including the name of the customers. Aercap only lists the number of deals every quarter, which could also be sale leaseback constructions. This year they placed 7 787s up to Q3, but probably 2 of those sale&leaseback deals.

But with all these leasing deals we could see more orders soon, Aercap has placed the majority of their 74 787s on order. They might go and order the 787-10 now, with deals now going to ALC (EVA & Vietnam Airlines earlier this year). ALC still has enough 787-10 slots available, but their almost out of 787-9 slots. They can always convert some of their 787-10 order downwards, but it's not unlikely they will simply order more 787-9s.

Ethiopian has confirmed that they have order 2 787-9s for delivery in 2017.

http://www.2merkato.com/news/alerts/...considers-777x

This could be an UFO order placed some months ago. As it's only 2 orders I expect some, but they could also be leased. Ethiopian is already leasing 3 787-8s from AerCap.

Nope. All 3 787-9 test frames are already in service with Air New Zealand (LN126 and LN133) and Japan Airlines (LN139).

Boeing has 11 early build 787-8s that need to be re-worked to certification standards. 8 of those 11 airplanes have customers assigned to them as of today but have delivery dates stretching out to 2018.
3 Teens left a few weeks back.

I thought what are generally referred to as "Terrible Teens" were the unsold 788s that spent a long time on the old cross runway. I didn't realise that they could be re-worked into B789s?

These teens are Boeing 787-8s. Ethiopian confirmed order for 2 787-9s.

And about these 787-8s teens - 6 of these will be delivered to Ethiopian (LN10, LN12, LN13, LN14, LN16 and LN18. 2 for Air Austral (LN15 and LN22 - this one is already finished and being prepared for first flight in January). One for Crystal Air - LN17.

Boeing has 3 frames for sale - LN4, LN5 and LN19.

Boeing has 4 outstanding 787-8 BBJ orders, one of them is for Crystal Air, the other 3 could easily be the 3 terrible teens that are not yet allocated to a customer on Uresh's spreadsheet.

LN4 and LN5 are indeed customer "BBJ" frames in Boeing order system, operator TBC. LN19 still as RAM NTU.

BBJ is really the only sensible use for those early overweight frames. Weight (and the consequent operating cost and range limitations) are a deal-breaker for airlines which need to utilize the aircraft about 13 to 14 hours per day but are not such a big deal for a VIP business aircraft that won't be operated more than 13 to 14 hours per week and which has effectively unlimited range anyway.

However, I'd rather have a Gulfstream G600 than an Airbus or Boeing business jet. Faster, quieter, better air quality, operates into more airports, overflies commercial traffic, much lower operating cost, etc. The only advantages of an Airbus or Boeing business jet over a Gulfstream is greater passenger capacity and virtually unlimited range.
