It's a wet lease. So will be operated as a Oman air flight, but with KQ plane and crew from what I understand.

Seemingly Boeing are losing money on the 787-8 on a frame by frame basis still.

The commonality between the 787-8 and the 787-9 is apparently very small, meaning that economies of scale are impossible.

Interest in the 787-8 is low, again meaning that ... economies of scale are impossible.

It may well be that Boeing will lose money on every single 787-8 they ever make in addition to development costs which are long gone.

Luckily programme accounting allows the 787-8 losses to be hidden in the now profitable (per frame not historic) 787-9 programme and the 787-10 will have a high degree of commonality with the 787-9 so the same problems will not reoccur in future.

But the story now is that the SEC, in their ongoing investigation of the Programme Accounting in Boeing may require Boeing to spin out the 787-8 programme as a separate ( loss making) block given how different the 787-8 and 787-9 are .

In other words the SEC is moving to the opinion that they are almost separate aircraft, not variants.

Nothing official expected until the summer though. And the SEC may not order a separation.

We know that this engine will deliver a step-change in efficiency and performance for the 787 when it enters service. In fact it’s perfect for it.”
The Trent 1000 is already the most reliable engine on the Boeing 787 and was the first to power both the -8 and -9 versions into service. Over one and a half million flying hours have been successfully achieved and now the TEN version is set to deliver new levels of fuel efficiency and thrust for customers.



The TEN offers proven new technology; its features include a new compressor system scaled from the Trent XWB engine programme and a new turbine design to allow extra thrust. Unique to the TEN is a modulated air system which optimises the secondary air flow within the engine using a valve system with no moving parts, a robust system that delivers performance benefits. External systems have also been improved and re-designed.
