1st 787 order news from Farnborough.

Last year this airline showed interest into going international with the 787, now this is turned into a Letter of Intent to order 5 787-9s.

Quote:
Boeing, Donghai Airlines Announce Airline's Intent to Purchase 25 737 MAX 8s, Five 787-9s

FARNBOROUGH, United Kingdom, July 11, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Boeing [NYSE: BA] and Donghai Airlines announced today the airline's intent to purchase 25 737 MAX 8s and five 787-9 Dreamliners at the 2016 Farnborough International Airshow. The agreement is valued at more than $4 billion at current list prices.

Shenzhen-based Donghai Airlines previously ordered 15 Next-Generation 737-800s and 10 737 MAX 8s in 2013. Donghai continues to fulfill its strategic plan to convert its business model from cargo services to passenger services.

"Donghai Airlines has undergone steady development over the past 10 years since the beginning of our freighter operations in 2006," said Mr. Wong Cho-Bau, Chairman, Donghai Airlines. "Under China's One Belt One Road initiative, we will accelerate our fleet expansion plan to satisfy the rapidly growing air travel market and help build our home base Shenzhen as the transportation hub in southern China. We're committed to introducing new next-generation airplanes that deliver the industry-leading fuel efficiency and passenger comfort in their segment market as a key effort to fulfill the plan."

Boeing will work with Donghai Airlines to finalize the details of the agreement. The order will be posted on Boeing's Orders & Deliveries website once all contingencies are cleared.

"We are honored by Donghai Airline's reaffirmation of the 737 MAX, and we look forward to welcoming Donghai as our new 787 customer," said Boeing Commercial Airplanes President & CEO Ray Conner. "These new airplanes will provide Donghai Airlines with the added efficiency, operating economics and passenger comfort for their business growth domestically and internationally."

The 737 MAX incorporates the latest technology CFM International LEAP-1B engines, Advanced Technology winglets and other improvements to deliver the highest efficiency, reliability and passenger comfort in the single-aisle market.

The 787-9 Dreamliner can fly 290 passengers up to 14,140 kilometers in a typical two-class configuration. The airplane will deliver unmatched fuel efficiency to Donghai airlines, enabling the carrier to expand the range and quantity of services on long-haul market.

Donghai Airlines started freighter operations in 2006. The carrier expanded to offer passenger services in 2014. Donghai Airlines currently has a fleet of 11 Boeing 737-800s serving for more than 10 cities across China. With extended air route network, the Shenzhen-based carrier is making great efforts to build a modern medium-scale airline with high quality.

Nice, but I wonder who else found it irritating. It would be nice to see an unedited version, or one that is edited by someone who is not a marketing monkey. The video switches away at key moments. Is there a video titled "The making of the Franborough video" ?

Headline from the Express: Scared of FLYING? Whatever you do, do NOT click on this terrifying plane video

What is the max takeoff inclination? I saw a 45 degree angle through the window.

Woodys,

Thanks so much for the links for 747-800 AND 777, just what I wanted.

I cannot believe that I found this forum by pure accident, clicked on a picture on Airliners.net on a 787, went thru onto this forum. To say least I have so much information, I know what to be looking for.

Thanks guys

Gulf Air awards Rolls-Royce $900m contract for Trent 1000 engines

Gulf Air, the Kingdom of Bahrain’s national carrier, has awarded Rolls-Royce a $900m contract for Trent 1000 engines to power 10 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners. The contract also includes long-term TotalCare® service support.

In addition, Gulf Air also has the option to purchase the same engine to power six further Boeing 787-9s.

The aircraft all form part of Gulf Air’s recently announced widebody aircraft orders, geared towards facilitating long term expansion capabilities for the airline’s future network requirement.

Mr. Maher Salman Al Musallam, Gulf Air, Chief Executive Officer, said: “Gulf Air’s current widebody fleet is also powered by Trent 700 engines and, with this latest development, we look forward to continuing our longstanding relationship with Rolls-Royce as we take an important step forward in developing our future fleet. We have experience of the Trent engine and its durability and resilience in a variety of operating conditions and we are confident the Trent 1000 will deliver the same outstanding performance.”

Eric Schulz, Rolls-Royce, President – Civil Aerospace, said: “We are proud to be selected by a valued customer such as Gulf Air and this marks a significant success for the Trent 1000. It has developed a real momentum in the marketplace, winning more than 60 per cent of engine competitions in the last six years.”

The signing was witnessed by Bahrain’s Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications H.E. Engineer Kamal bin Ahmed Mohammed, H.E. Shaikh Fawaz bin Mohammed Al Khalifa Ambassador of the Kingdom of Bahrain to United Kingdom and British Ambassador to Bahrain, Simon Martin.

Rolls-Royce powered the very first Boeing 787 test flight in December 2009, the first 787-8 to enter service in October 2011, and the first 787-9 to enter service, in 2014.

Let's post this one here as well, 1 extra 787-9 for TUI.

Boeing, TUI Group Finalize Order for 10 737 MAXs, One 787-9 Dreamliner

http://boeing.mediaroom.com/2016-07-...7-9-Dreamliner

~~~~~~~~
And there's also some order news not directly related to the airshow (or maybe not yet). A couple of months after the announcement of the MoU it's now reported that Ruili has firmed up their 787-9 order.
Quote:
China’s Ruili Airlines finalizes order for six Boeing 787-9s
Kunming-based Ruili Airlines has finalized an order for six Boeing 787-9 aircraft, in a deal worth $1.54 billion at list prices. Deliveries are scheduled from 2021.
The order paves the way for international expansion.
Launched in May 2014, Ruili operates a fleet of nine aircraft on 16 domestic routes with 46 daily departures. The carrier plans to expand its fleet to 11 aircraft by the end of this year and to 80 aircraft by the end of 2025.
http://atwonline.com/airframes/china...-boeing-787-9s
source from China:
http://finance.sina.com.cn/roll/2016...x8533154.shtml
According to the Chinese article this new was confirmed by the airlines chairman. The reason why these 787s will only be delivered in 2021 is because it's a very young airline. It has to add a couple of years of operations before it will be granted permission use the 787s on international routes.
We might see Boeing announce this order on the airshow, if not we will see it just on (one of) the next Orders & Deliveries update.
The Ruili order has now been confirmed by Boeing.
Quote:
Boeing, Ruili Airlines Finalize Order for Six 787-9 Dreamliners
FARNBOROUGH, United Kingdom, July 13, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Boeing (NYSE: BA) and Ruili Airlines announced today at the 2016 Farnborough International Airshow the finalization of an order for six 787-9 Dreamliners, valued at $1.59 billion at current list prices. The order represents the first widebody order for the Yunnan-based carrier.
Ruili Airlines first announced an intent to order the six 787-9 Dreamliners in May at the ceremony for the airline's two-year anniversary.
http://boeing.mediaroom.com/2016-07-...-9-Dreamliners
Sadly they recently changed their livery, losing the swoosh.
Looking at the vertical fin I suppose that they are going to introduce new livery with that one, hmm?
Take a look at the bottom of the tail fin and you could notice a little piece of white color just by the blue, which looks a little bit different to this what we have in the current livery as well as the engines cowlings are ... white.
Like this? And engines' cowlings aren't pre-painted. They could end white even if standard livery has blue cowlings - painting cowlings means worse performance due to lack of laminar flow.
