Qatar HAD 30 787 options for a long time.

http://nyc787.blogspot.ie/2015/11/qa...tions.html?m=1

I read todays news as they will firm up less than 30 787s and will take 777s instead of some of the 787s, likely not 777X models if they want them soon and if the price is right.

I wonder if Qatar Airways decides to pursue -8 version still as a replacement to their 320NEO network strategy, or if the -9 version (which is more flexible) will be on the cards.
I wonder what delivery dates/years will be secured as with today's backlog of orders the wait could be quite significant...

Actually the order was made by the Saudi Ministry of Finance in 2008 and will be 3 787-9 and 10 787-10s. The operator is Saudia.

I'm pretty sure Etihad is the 787-10 launch customer as they announced that at the rollout of their new livery in Everett 2 years ago.

Would it be fair to say the launch customer is not yet in the firing order, only the 3 -10 test frames.??

I forgot about Singapore. They were indeed launch customer.
We will see who will take test frames, their deliveries are slated for mid 2018, so not far after certification.

Almost certainly not. SQ's strategy is to use A350s on longer routes and 787s on regional routes. It's very difficult to imagine SQ configuring economy class 8 abreast on the 787 for regional routes. They might possibly include a small Premium Economy cabin which would probably be configured 8 abreast.

Yes! JAL & ANA:

https://www.seatguru.com/airlines/AN...ng_787-800.php

https://www.seatguru.com/airlines/AN..._787-800_B.php

https://www.seatguru.com/airlines/Ja...es_787-800.php

https://www.seatguru.com/airlines/Ja..._787-800_B.php

At least these 2 airlines were prepared to give their economy pax some extra space and comfort (and not jump on the 3-3-3 bandwagon).
