It's no coincidence that Ethiopian only received frames that were supposed to go to ANA or LAN and didn't change them from RR to GE to have the same engines as the rest of their 787 fleet.

I know that it's possible to change the engines, but it's not something that likely to be done with these early frames. It takes a bit more effort, time and therefor also money to do this then just simply hanging the other ones underneath the wings. The aim is to get these teens as cheaply and quickly ready for their new takers, anything that doesn't have to be changed will not be touched.

Engine Change Before Delivery

Actually there was one. Line 11, MSN 41987 was originally an ANA aircraft (with Rolls Engine). It was finally delivered as N507BJ as an eventual VIP/BBJ with GEnx engines. Delivery occurred March 2015.

Yep.
And only difference between RR and GE frames are pylons, which are interchengable even between already assembled frames. Of course you are right why Ethiopian took these particular frames, but there is no technical problem with going from RR to GE and vice versa.

Engines for Ethiopian and Air Austral are brand new, fresh from RR factory.

Guys, I got a chance to be on-hand in cabin retrofit of 6 787-9 in a row and more to come. It's a nice experience considering it's a first time outside boeing.

Why are people adding random pics unrelated to the discussions like the Vietnam one above, it seems to be a weird trait unique to skyscraper aviation forums.

Sadly the news/discussion threads often get polluted by moronic planespotters who have no news and who discuss nothing.

However things are much better than they were a year ago and the genuine news like Woody gets a chance at least nowadays.

Apologies for that post. I did not realise that this thread is strictly for discussions, although you could go on with life without calling planespotters "who have no news and who discuss nothing" moronic, or even assume they have nothing to discuss. Have a nice day

On another note, a China Southern Airlines 787 made an emergency landing in Auckland Airport, 2 days ago, due to engine failure. No injuries were reported.

China Southern plane lands safely after emergency at Auckland International

Passengers from a China Southern Airlines flight that made an emergency landing at Auckland International Airport this morning, are now off the aircraft.

The 212 passengers and crew disembarked the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner through buses as aircraft engineers assessed the plane after pilots were forced to make an emergency landing due to engine failure.

It's understood the left engine of the relatively new Dreamliner shut down shortly after take off before 11am, sparking a full scale emergency.

It is a discussion and news with photos to embellish the news thread. Not a drive by and dump...please.

I don't think there's much to be learnt by scrapping LN-4 and 5.
I hope some aviation museum will be willing to take them.
