btw, The Air India 787s that had their registration changed was just because they have been flown to Charleston to join the other 787s for Air India that have been produced there. This just to make room at Everett and because it's still unclear when a decision will be made. The most recent delay is because the minister that has to sign the final agreement is now on holiday and won't be returning until after the weekend.

And the 1st 787 for LAN is currently being painted, we might even see it roll out of the paint hangar today.

ps. the last delivery to ANA turned out already been made on the last day of June although it did fly to Tokyo in July. This increases the total deliveries in June to 3 instead of 2.

Interesting livery, but I don't yet know what to think about it.

According to this website that has the same picture the 1st 787 for China Southern should be painted in August.
http://news.cacs.net.cn/html/20120704/120356.shtml

They have 2 787s in the modification center right now, this news must mean that they will be delivered in August or early September.

Flightglobal has an awesome air to air video of Qatar's 787 at Farnborough.

The Qatar Airways plane looks beautiful. Sad to see that Air India is using 9 abreast seating on their 787, blah. squeeze....

There will be few airlines that won't be using 9 abreast.

8 abreast
ANA (international configuration)
JAL

9 abreast
Air India
Qatar
United
Ethiopian
LOT
LAN

You can expect most of the 787s to be 9-abreast.

I would want to see the United 787. they have a history of squeezing as many people as they can in their planes. Passenger comfort? whats that all about?

They do have economy plus or whatever with a 35-36" pitch, which is pretty good even if you do have to pay a bit more. Their business class is a staggered 2-2-2 instead of the 1-2-1 stagger or 1-2-1 herringbone layouts of a lot of other operators so they fit in a few more high dollar seats which a maybe a little narrower, but as economy goes everyone (Qatar included) except ANA, JAL and perhaps China Southern is pretty the same 3-3-3 layout with a 31"-32" pitch. The Qatar 787s do look really sharp and I hear the service is impeccable, but as far as comfort in economy goes it seems like JAL and ANA are the only ones making a concerted effort.

I see...I also wonder why use 3-3-3 instead of 2-5-2, so much better in my opinion. I wonder what American Airlines will offer with their 787.

The 3-3-3 is preferred by a majority of the travellers. Plus it's also more practical for airlines, they only need 1 set of 3 seats that they can fit 3 times on every row. 3-3-3 also requires 3 in-flight entertainment units per row, 2-5-2 requires 4 of those units. It's also Boeings standard lay-out for the 787, all the prototypes have 3-3-3. I doubt that any airline will choose 2-5-2 for 9-abreast.

As for AA, they first need to firm their order before anything else. But when it comes to cabin lay-out the choice to go 10 abreast 3-4-3 with the 777-300ER should tell enough that they won't go with 8-abreast on the 787.

I believe that Korean Air was supposed to be one of the 1st airlines to get the 787. But since they changed their order from the 787-8 to the 787-9 they will now get them later. The 1st 787-9 is scheduled to be delivered to Air New Zealand in the 2nd quarter of 2014, so it will be after this date. As far as I can see in the couple of articles about the change of the order all 10 should be delivered by 2016, it's not mentioned when exactly the 1st one should be delivered. But that was last year and since then there have been a few delays, although according to Boeing the 787-9 program is now running on schedule. But unless there aren't any more big delays the 2016 should still be realistic.

~~~~~~~~~
Tomorrow starts the Farnborough Air show, there Boeing will most likely give the press an update on the current status and future developments of the 787 programme. There are rumours that Boeing wants to increase the production rate even further then the 10 per month that should be reached at the end of 2013. A total of 14 per month should be possible when both the factories in Everett and Charleston could reach a production of 7 planes per month. The stretched 787-10X is also still on the table, it could already be officially launched this week although it's more probable that it will happen more to the end of the year.
Furthermore we should see some more orders for the 787 at the airshow. Although even with a increased production the back-log is still huge (currently 845 planes), so new orders will be for delivery well into the 2nd half of this decade. So there probably won't be any big orders, unless an airline wants to be certain that they will get some production slots in 2017/2018.
The title on the picture is wrong, it says it's a 787-846, where the last 2 numbers are the Boeing costumer code for JAL. But with the 787 Boeing doesn't use the costumer codes anymore, so it's just 787-8.
Anyway, United has revealed their special 787 livery, it will have a special golden stripe.
First delivery to United will be mid September.
I like the special livery. Simple and nice.
Personally, I would love to see United's 787 in their blue & silver vintage livery.
Also on video.
A walk through Qatar Airways brand new 787 dreamliner.
Meanwhile in India.
Quote:
Air India Boeing Dreamliners grounded by bureaucracy
Three of Boeing's(BA.N) cutting-edge 787 Dreamliners painted in Air India colours are parked in South Carolina, waiting for the ailing state carrier to pay for them and take possession.
India has not yet signed off on an undisclosed package agreed between Air India and Boeing, according to a senior government official directly involved in the process.
"We still do not have inputs from several ministries, including departments like expenditure secretary in the finance ministry. So the process is getting delayed," the official said on Wednesday, declining to be identified.
Link to the original source of the picture of the LAN 787.
http://paineairport.com/kpae5219.htm
This article has a round-up of the upcoming 1st deliveries.
http://www.centreforaviation.com/ana...liveries-77875
Airline - 1st delivery - number of 787s delivered in 2012
Air India - July - 7 (hopefully)
Qatar - July/August - 5
Ethiopian - August - 4
China Southern - August - 3
United - September - 5
LAN - October - 2
LOT - November - 1
Some of the deliveries, like the LAN and LOT seem late, since the information in the article came from the airlines they might have given a conservative schedule bases on previous delays. The writers also didn't talk with Hainan Airlines that should also take delivery of their 1st 787s this year.
