I really would like to see the B787 in person... first impression: HU's design is really nice with the 787, while the AI interior seem to be a bit odd (mood lighting?)

The ones that are already waiting outside the Boeing factory to have rework done won't be delivered to RAM. Boeing started the manufacturing process early before the design and production process was finalized, therefore the first 66 manufactured 787s all had to go through a rework program before they can be delivered. The 2 787s originally intended for RAM will get their rework, get a new lick of paint and get delivered to for example Transaero or Lion Air.

Since these are early manufactured they are overweight, even after the rework. RAM will get better planes for the same price, just with some extra delay. Boeing can wait with the rework of these planes therefor having more manpower available to get later build 787 delivered. And some other airlines can pick up these early 787s for a good price and much earlier delivery then when they would have if they would have to get in line at the back of the cue.
Thanks for the explanation.

Interesting color combination choice. Reminds me of nature in play. But where is the mood lighting... it seems like all white?

Slight correction, ANA JA815A was delivered on Sunday and flew out an hour ago.
http://flightaware.com/live/flight/ANA9399

But Air India's VT-ANI has not been delivered yet, it was supposed to be delivered yesterday (Monday) but now is scheduled in the "near term".

With the last day of the month delivery to ANA the total for September comes to 7 deliveries, by far the biggest month for the 787. The total deliveries is now 26.

For October we can expect
Air India: 2
Ethiopian: 2
LAN: 1

The situation with the deliveries to Qatar is a bit unclear now. Qatar's CEO Al Baker has become angry again that it's taking much longer then expected. Even saying that there is no firm delivery date in sight, but it's completely unclear what the problems are. Most likely it's something very specific to the Qatar 787s because there are plenty of deliveries to other airlines.
http://www.flightglobal.com/news/art...veries-377099/

There are 3 787 for Qatar that are painted and 2 of them had their 1st flight. These 2 could in theory be delivered this month, we will see what happens.

And if there are any other 1st flights in the coming days it should be still be possible to deliver them this month if there are no problems.

My mistake. I saw gold color in table, then wrote about it here.

The Air Indias babus (officials) are notorious and want to be given importance. If they dont get any (read deserve any) they throw these tantrums of delaying and delaying it further. Afterall its just taxpayers money and not theirs

Qatar Airways had shed some light on why the deliveries are delayed. It's not Boeing's fault because it's the problems with the GEnx engines that are the reason why Qatar won't take delivery.

Quote:
No Boeing 787 delivery until engine fault fixed - Qatar Airways

Oct 2 (Reuters) - Qatar Airways will not take delivery of Boeing's 787 Dreamliner until an engine defect is modified, the Gulf Arab carrier's chief executive said on Tuesday.

"The 787 has an engine with new technology. However, there has been a material defect in the engine which now needs replacement and inspection," Akbar Al Baker said after a speech in the Qatari capital.

"We have informed Boeing that we will not take delivery until the 787s have the new modified shaft."
http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/...pe=marketsNews
It will be interesting to see what Boeing will do now. GE has changed the production process, new engines should now have a proper mid shaft without the problems that the Air India 787 with the cracked shaft had. Will they just change the shaft or even change the complete engines? I think the last option is the most obvious, replace the engine with a new one and then change the part on the old engines and use those on a different 787. But it does depends on GE, if they have engines on stock they could do it quickly. But I don't think they have since they engine are built on time for the regular production process and they already had to replace 2 engines that actually had the problems. It's going to take some time to replace 6 engines on the 3 assembled Qatar Airways 787s without delaying the continuing production. The people working at the GE factory can probably expect to work some overtime in the coming weeks.

Well, other airlines don't have problems with the GEnx engines. There's just an advice to check the engines every 90 days, and that can be very easily in a few hours with the engine on the wing. The engines could still be fixed or changed on a later date after the delivery. So all in all Qatar can be considered too critical in this case.

Another issue concerning all Chinese airlines have popped up, according to some sourced rumors Boeing has some unsettled issues with the Civil Aviation Administration of China. This could be the reason why the China Southern and the Hainan Airlines 787s that already came out of the final assembly and the modification center haven't made their 1st flights. It's predicted that they will be delivered at the end of the year when Boeing celebrates it's 40 years of doing business with China.

If you buy a brand NEW car and the dealership which sold you the car tell you to check your engine every 90 days for an oil leak due to a faulty gasket would you accept delivery of your brand NEW [email protected]$!?

JAL, Ethiopian Airways, United Airlines & Air India all took delivery knowing that there's this issue with the engines. It's just like every single A380 delivery right now, those planes also have to go back to the factory from 2013 to permanently fix the wing issues.

It's not good that there's a problem, but if you run a business and you need the airplanes this issue should not be a big problem. There's an easy way to check the engines and there's a permanent fix on the way. If you want to expand your network like Qatar says it wants to do you simply take your planes. Just like Emirates takes their A380s now the fix is on the way.

So Qatar is either very critical or there are other problems completely unrelated to Boeing or GE and Qatar is just buying some time.

It all becomes a bit unclear what is happening with Qatar and the 787.

This article that is for subscribed members only has a small preview plus some snippets on twitter.
http://www.strategicaeroresearch.com...350xwb-delays/

Quote:
Arab Airlines Position For Further A350XWB Delays

While Qatar Airways is gearing up to take delivery of its first 787-8 later this month, held up mostly by IFE-related issues more than concerns about the GEnx engines, along with Etihad Airways and Emirates, all three are braced for more A350XWB delays
And from twitter:
https://twitter.com/StratAero

Quote:
"Thales IFE source of Qatar Airways' 787 delivery delays"

"Qatar Airways happy with @GEAviation GEnx engines"

And on A.net from someone who probably has access to the whole article.

"According to Strategic Aero, Qatar is to receive it's 1st 787 this week (contractual delviery) followed by a delivery ceremony around Oct. 17th."
This should mean that the engines are not the problem, but that it was the regular delays that are still happening with many of the recent deliveries.

The Thales IFE system for Qatar is an after market issue, it has to be installed after the delivery. This is the reason why there's a gap of about 2 week between the contractual delivery and the actual delivery ceremony. This could also have been 1 of the reasons for the delay that the system wasn't ready yet.

We'll probably never know, so hopefully this is true and we will see the delivery later this month. But as always I will only believe if there's actual confirmation by 1 of the involved parties and/or when there's an actual delivery flight.

~~~~~~
The article also had some news about the interest of the Arab airlines in the 787-10.
https://twitter.com/StratAero
Quote:
"Etihad eyes 787-10 to complement 787-9"
"Emirates still undecided on 787-10, favours 777-8X"
I bet that Boeing is doing everything to get that 787-10 order from Emirates even tough it will pretty much kill the 777-8X. But that's not necessarily a bad scenario for Boeing since they will be able to focus on the 777-9X.
Anyway, it will be interesting to see if the 787-10 could be launched this month. With this news Etihad has become one the major candidates to be the launch customer.
