I think a predominantly white livery looks much better as it shows an airline being refreshed from a long gone past. I like the blue stripe covering the windows, but I think that accent may not look well with the 787.

Ah. It's good to keep some traditions, but I believe that a little tweaking isn't bad, especially when it actually makes the aircraft look cleaner?

The 1st 787 for China Southern finally took to the sky for the 1st time yesterday.

Another 787 for ANA also made it's 1st flight yesterday, together with a Costumer flight for Ethiopian Airlines 787 that should be delivered at the end of the week.

And today, or better currently the 2nd 787 for LAN is on it's 2nd flight. This one is also expected to be delivered later this month.

Definitely superb photos! I just hope that UA will get a lot of 787s to replace its aging 757s and 767s.

United has 50 on order (36x 787-8 & 14x 787-9), it's actually a nice round number even though they come from 2 different orders placed by the pre merger United and Continental.

The old domestic 757s will be replaced by 737-900ER and then completely replaced by the 737 MAX 9, the 787 will be more a 767 replacement. Although some 787s will most likely fly some international 757 routes later on.

Well, UA chose a 787 to operate between Denver and Tokyo-Narita, which would be really nice. Finally, a route that will not be operated with a 772 or 744 initially!

JAL has revealed a special livery on 1 of their 787s. It's a collaboration between JAL and Studio Ghibli, it has several drawings on both sides that where made by kids that entered a competition some years ago. The winner, Yuko Yamaguchi who is now 15 years old has her drawing that she made when she was 10 as the biggest one on both sides of the plane.

Here's a video of the plane taxing and taking off from Haneda Airport.

But isn't one of the orders not due to take effect for a while?? And do they have options for more??

Well, I'm not really sure. But UA is ready to deploy their 787s for long-haul trips to begin with from next year, plus it has already released its domestic hub-to-hub routings to see the feasibility of the plane on daily flight rotations.

The Continental order for 11 787-8 and 14 787-9 is to be delivered first, the 25 787-8s from the United order were expected to be delivered from 2016. So yes the United order is still some time out, unless they made a new deal with Boeing that they will be delivered earlier. They also has 50 options, those are from the United order.

Air India started international operations today.
Quote:
Air India operates first flight to Frankfurt with new Dreamliner

Air India, today, operated its first long haul flight to Frankfurt with the new Dreamliner Boeing 787 aircraft.

The airline received the first 787 Dreamliner from the US-based aircraft manufacturer Boeing on September 8, after a wait of four
years. So far, Air India has received three Dreamliners. The airline will take delivery of the fourth 787 on October 20 and another by the
end of this year, followed by seven more in 2013, five in 2014, six in 2015 and three in 2016.Lack of adequate manpower has forced the
national carrier to delay its plan for flights to Australia and other destinations

full article:
http://business-standard.com/india/n...iner/191326/on
.
According to this article they will take delivery of their fourth 787 this week, but we can expect that one to slip into next week. And they will also be taking delivery of a 5th this year and then 7 in 2013. That means 9 deliveries in total for the remainder of this year and next year.

Inventory of 787s at the Boeing factories.
early frames in long term storage in Everett: 3
in the EMC in Everett: 1
flight line Charleston: 3
in assembly Charleston: 1

In the upcoming assembly list
to be assembled Everett: 1
to be assembled Charleston: 1

total: 10

This will probably mean that the early frames that are stored in Everett that still need months of rework will be delivered post 2013. Or are deferred by Air India or Boeing and will now go to anther airline.

Probably never.

It has not been confirmed by ANA or Boeing that their remaining early frames will, like the early LAN and Royal Air Maroc frames go to other airlines but that's pretty much what everyone expects right now.

All of them need enough modifications that will take more then 6 months, maybe even up to a year for the earliest frames of the LN10 to LN19 that are now in storage. And it will take some time when Boeing will start the modification for those frames as other later build frames now have the priority. And more capacity will be shifted from the modification process to the actual production, this will also slow down the process. It will take until late 2014 before all of these early frames are delivered to the airlines that have bought them.

So Boeing has to find owners for 16 planes.
There are 3 B787 for ANA in Everett (LN59 in EMC, LN63 at flight tests, LN83 in position 2 in 40-26) and LN97 in orderline to be assembled in Everett). ANA has got 15 delivered planes, till the end of March 2013 will be have 20 787-8. I don't know timeline for next deliveres for ANA. If ANA take early build frames it will be in late 2013 or 2014.

2 early build (LN20 and LN21) 787s for JAL are in EMC, next one that should go through EMC is LN36 for China Southern.
----

Probably today (Everett time) SP-LRA will go to B1 flight.

There were no B1 flights due to the bad weather conditions, lots of rain.

As for the early frames, Lion Air (5x), Transaero (4x) and RwandAir are rumored in the press that they have bought some of these frames. RwandAir does not have a firm order yet, but they have bought an option for 2 planes.

ANA has 15 deliveries, 1 is almost ready to be delivered, 1 is in the EMC, 1 is currently in production and they will also have LN97 that should go into assembly in December. If they are going to have 20 by March they will need 1 more in the early LN100s that will go into assembly in January / early February. They will probably get 1 every month in the coming months, they are pretty much down to a normal delivery schedule after the rush earlier this year.

Unfortunately. SP-LRA must wait for better weather. It should be in Poland in 16th November. I'm curious when SP-LRB will fly to Poland, LOT confirmed SP-LRA at 15th November, next one early January, and three other till the end of March 2013. But that can be even faster, LOT has secured financing for 5 787, and assembly is going really fast now.
