Work on BA's 1st 787 has started, it will go into final assembly in several months and will be delivered in May.

Work begins on first British Airways Dreamliner

Construction has started on British Airways’ first Dreamliner, with the Boeing 787 due to join the airline’s fleet in May next year.

British Airways has ordered 24 of Boeing’s game-changing aircraft, as well as 12 Airbus A380 superjumbos.

The airline is on track to be first in Europe to have both aircraft types operating in its fleet.

The first part of the British Airways 787 to be built, which is 50 per cent constructed of composite materials, was the mid forward fuselage, which was constructed in Japan.

Yesterday there were no B1 (1st flight) for the 787, there were 2 for the 747-8 and LAN's 2nd 787 CC-BBB made another test flight.

That sounds good! Finally a decent aircraft for LOT indeed to replace its B767s.

LOTs 1st 787, SP-LRA is scheduled to make it's 1st flight today in just over an hour.
http://flightaware.com/live/flight/BOE270

But beware, it's very common that first flights are delayed or postponed.

It's still in the planning but it hasn't flown yet.

In the meantime another 1st flight came up on FlightAware to depart later today.
http://flightaware.com/live/flight/BOE290

This is United's 2nd 787 N26906 (LN77).

edit:
The SP-LRA is in the air right now.

And a 3rd 1st flight for loaded in flight aware.
http://flightaware.com/live/flight/BOE460

And this is Qatar's A7-BCA, this should be the 3rd one that they will get.

Nice. Maybe future deliveres for Qatar, Air India, China Southern and Hainan will go without delays and Boeing discharge backload of deliveres and flightline. Assembly line is going faster and faster, modification program is wide too. Without efficient deliveres Paine Field will be stuffed with ready 787s.

The deliveries are also going faster of course, last month 5 from Everett and this month already 2 plus 2 more that are now ready for delivery. The deliveries are now going faster then the production, if they keep this up they won't have to worry about the space in Everett. It does help if all the next 1st deliveries go without too much trouble.

Currently WiFi can be retrofitted by a 3rd party, but they have said that it will be part of the standard catalogue by the end of the year.

The 787 comes standard with an AC power.

I just hope a lot of Asian carriers will get the aircraft because it will help boost their revenues by establishing more long-haul routes... And with WiFi and in-seat power as standard features, it will attract more passengers to ride the aircraft. And also, is mood lighting included as standard feature or as an optional feature?

LN55 for United completed change incorporation and re-work, now is in paint hangar.
Only 3 very late build planes needs to complete modification program: LN52 for United, LN59 for ANA (engines attached) and LN62 for Qatar (engines attached).
LN80 for LAN is already after final assembly and starts preflight preparations.
I wonder what SP-LRB is doing in the EMC, only stand there?

I hope UA's B787s will have on-board WiFi and in-flight mood lighting... that will hopefully attract more customers.

The SP-LRB is standing on one of the outside positions at the EMC that was used this summer for rework. In the autumn and the winter most work is done inside because of the weather. Because the flightline is full they also use the space to park new frames that don't need rework.

The LN80 for LAN was the 1st frame that came from the surge line, the assembly started on 24 Aug. It took almost 2 months to get the 1st one completed, this should already go faster with the 2nd one as a new position is loaded every 2 weeks now.

LOT also posted a video of the 1st flight of the SP-LRA on it's YouTube channel.

I hadn't noticed on the earlier video and pictures that it flew with a N registration and the Experimental sign above the front doors. I guess Boeing had to test something new that is specific to the LOT 787s.

Today there was also a first flight, it was LN77 N26906 for United.
http://flightaware.com/live/flight/BOE290

Qatar's A7-BCL had it 2nd flight, their A7-BCA is just like a couple of days ago scheduled to make it's 1st flight in 30 minutes.
