That's basically what I heard from my Malaysian friend who has a relative working for SQ. And by the way, 787s for a LCC? That'll be cool to watch.

United 1st 787 made it's flight first out of the USA, the first international destination Amsterdam was the destination of this test flight. It landed about 90 minutes ago and I took these pictures from the panorama terrace.

Beautiful! 787 looks great with the United livery. I can't wait to see the regular United livery on the 787.

Finally, a B787 with UA! Looking forward to seeing that in person soon! A really nice change to its standard livery.

Was it a test flight or a commercial flight?
Where does it fly in the US?

Cool! So I was right I drove by Schiphol on the 300 (a busline) late this afternoon (part of my daily commute) and I thought I saw a united plane - vaguely through small gaps in the shrubbery - which looked suspiciously like a 787.

Apparently the first US airline for a new type has to fly 100 hours of non revenue test flights before they can use it for commercial flights. This flight Houston - Amsterdam - Houston was the 1st international flight of this 100 hours. In the US it has flown from it's base in Houston to several bigger cities, like Chicago, Newark, Denver, San Fransisco and others

From 4 November it should start it's first commercial services on domestic routes from Houston to the cities it's has now visited.

More info here:
http://airlineroute.net/2012/08/30/u...estic-update1/

It's first international destination will also be Amsterdam, that's probably the reason they choose to send it here today and not to one of the Staralliance hubs.

~~~~
ps.
Ethiopian announced that they will launch a 787 service to Frankfurt from 17 Oct and Toronto from 9 Nov. This instead of the announced Mumbai service that was announced only a couple of days ago, this route will stay a 767 service. But again, they seem to change their plans on an almost daily basis....
Just read the initial flights, and ouch, IAH-SFO on a B788 will be operated at nighttime. I don't know then which terminal it will end up with: either the International terminal or Terminal 3. If the B788 will serve out of International Terminal G, it will be much better since I can see it from a distance.
LN74 CC-BBB delivered for LAN.
LN88 SP-LRE is now under final assembly. That's last LOT's 787 for over next 1,5 year. Last 3 planes will be delivered in late 2014 and 2015.
Thanks for these explanations, I didn't know about this 100 hours thing, and I'm quite surprised that the FAA asks that, just thinking about the cost of 100 hours in the air which is huge but also considering all the test flights and revenue flights operated by both Boeing and airlines before.
Amazing to think that for months there were only 787s based in one country...now within 3-4 months there'll be 787s based on all 5 major continents. Has any other aircraft type spread so quickly before?
I'm not really sure, but the 787's development sure has been unprecedented that it deserves a lot of attention from the media. It is a sign that the economic recovery is truly underway now.
Until today we have seen the 787's of airlines ANA, Japan, LAN, United, Qatar, Ethiopian, Air India, China Southern, Hainan Airlines and LOT Polish, but the question is, what are the following liveries will the 787 before entering the 2013?
Well, I don't know what other airlines will get more new 787s this year.
The next 2 airlines that will have their 1st 787 assembled are TUI Travel for Thomson Airways, there's a big chance that we will see this one out of assembly and painted before the end of 2012 although it will be close. The one after that will be the 1st one for lessor ILFC that will go to Aeromexico. This one should go into assembly in the 1st week of December and should come out at the very very end of December or more likely early January. The chances are very slim that we will see this one fully painted in 2012.
Btw, we have also seen the Royal Air Maroc livery on a 787, but since those won't be delivered to them and consequently will be repainted it might be better to not put it on the list.
Speaking of lessors, how many would ILFC get the 787s? And is there a specific configuration for the aircraft because it leases aircraft to other airlines?
