It's not an official launch for the 787-10 yet, as was predicted for last month. But the Boeing sales team is now officially allowed to talk about orders for the new variant with the airlines and leasing companies. A formal launch will only happen when there are serious actual commitments or even orders on the near horizon.

Quote:
Boeing Starts Formal Talks With Airlines On Double-Stretch 787

Boeing has begun formal talks with airlines and leasing companies on the development of the 787-10X double-stretch derivative following the provisional go-ahead from the company’s board of directors.

The move is “conditioned upon our obtaining final board approval to launch the program at a yet-to-be-determined date,” says Boeing. Responding to questions from Aviation Week, the company adds, “The timing of a decision to launch the program will depend on market response during the next phase of our discussions about the airplane.”

Assuming a firm launch decision later this year, entry-into-service is widely expected around 2018-2019.

Sources add that “nobody is using the word offerability at this point,” though the Boeing sales teams are now “allowed” to speak to airlines and present detailed marketing data for a product now deemed ready to move from product development to firm launch. Approval to offer is thought to have been given at the most recent board meeting, believed to have been held late last month.

Thomson 787

Talking of Thomson 787s but maybe slightly off topic their757 G-OOBH turned up @BHX on Monday wearing the new DREAMLINER livery.Very smart.Amazing how a new paint scheme can make an older aircraft look new.

I wonder when their 1st will be physically handed over to Qatar. It's almost a month since the 1st delivery, apparently it's not an easy job to instal the IFE system at Thales in California.

Delivery stats:
Qatar: 2 & 3
November: 2
2012: 32
Total delivered: 35

Next up for delivery is the 1st 787 for LOT, that should happen this Friday.

Those are indeed a lot of planes! So what is your projection for 787 deliveries by the year-end?

Read this:
http://nyc787.blogspot.com/2012/11/b...ry-target.html
Its most probably scenario, but we don't know what will be with deliveries for Air India, Chinese airlines probably won't take deliveries of theirs B787s this year.
I'm curious what will LOT do, delivery timeline was set before LOT's frames were in production, and for now there will be 2 deliveries for LOT this year, but Boeing will be probably pressing for faster deliveries, if frames will be ready to take. We will see.

//
status change of A7-BCA, now it is "ready for delivery". nyc787 messed up again...

The president of Boeing China still predicts that the 1st delivery to China will take place this year. That's not in line with the recent storage of the Chinese 787s, but when the certification suddenly speeds up it's no problem to ready these planes for delivery in no time.

News from the production front.

LN83 was rolled out of the factory yesterday, as can be seen at the very end of this video shot yesterday.

It's going to be interesting to see if this one will be delivered this month. If it goes into paint any day now and have it's 1st flight around the middle of the month it could be another end of the month delivery for ANA.

And on the routes front.

"Norwegian to Launch Boeing 787 Service to Bangkok / New York from late-May 2013"
http://airlineroute.net/2012/11/08/dy-787-may13/

Oslo – Bangkok eff 01JUN13
Oslo – New York JFK eff 30MAY13

Stockholm – Bangkok eff 20JUN13
Stockholm – New York JFK eff 31MAY13 (Day 3 from 26JUN13)

All 3 routes will see 3 flights per week at first.
http://airlineroute.net/2012/11/08/dy-787-may13/

Norwegian is expected to take delivery of their 1st 787 in April.

I've seen the Norwegian 787 update too. What's interesting is that once a long-haul flight is done in the non-European end, like ARN-BKK for example, it might not be obvious but the return flight will be to a different destination, not where it came from to begin with. Hmmm, is that how airlines really set up their routes nowadays?

That's just for the 1st month when they will be using just one 787.

When they get their 2nd and 3rd 787 they will be flying on the fixed routes. Since the crew is based in Bangkok scheduling wise it will actually be BKK - OSL - JFK - OSL - BKK and BKK - ARN - JFK - ARN - BKK rotations. So it's nothing different from all major airlines that have scheduled their routes like this for years.

The Norwegian 787 flights are popular, after they loaded these flights making them available for bookings their website crashed because of the heavy loads.

Very interesting. I thought myself that Norwegian is based in OSL, but its crew is based in BKK? Huh, that's something I've not known of before...

Fact, that crew is based in BKK, it doesnt mean, that BKK is Norwegian base. Probably, crew have a place, where they can relax after journey.

The reason why Norwegian's crew will be based on BKK - cost reduction. Instead of the Norwegians, Thai will be hired. As I understood, even pilots will be Thai. All in all, this move was not that much popular back in Norway, which is understandable.

In the job requirements it's stated that all applicants need to have a EU passport,. This does not only exclude pilots from Thailand but also from Norway, so it's still not a popular move in Norway
http://www.rishworthaviation.com/Opp...norwegian.aspx

I expect that it's more about taxes, making it still cheaper for Norwegian to base the pilots in Thailand then when they would have based them in Norway or in Sweden (or anywhere else in the EU).

Hm, I got wrong idea about pilots. Anyway, still other crew can be hired of Thailand citizens.
