A 787 without the new batteries would not be allowed to conduct commercial passenger flights into the US.

~~~~~~~~~
The assembly of the 1st 787-9 is coming closer. Yesterday the last 787-8 was loaded into the 40-24 hall, the surge line, before the assembly of 1st -9 will start there at the end of this month. And the 1st pieces are already arriving in Everett.
Boeing's Randy Tinseth made a post on his blog about this:
Quote:
Here’s a very visible sign of progress on the 787-9. The first major piece—the horizontal stabilizer— has arrived in our Everett factory some three weeks early. The horizontal stabilizer was built and assembled by the Boeing Advanced Developmental Composite team in Tukwila, Wash., with final installations and paint by the Boeing Salt Lake team.
The 3 787-9 test frames will be assembled back to back on the 40-24 line. The 787-8 assembly will slow down a bit because of this, but the main line and the Charleston line will see a rate increased to compensate this.
The 787-9 will be a better looking aircraft than the -8. Looking forward to seeing it.
I hope that BA send the 787 to YVR as I would then have the ideal excuse to visit relatives there!
The thing with AM is that the still have some old 767 on their long routes like Paris. So perhaps they just want to send back those planes to their owners and get advantage of the savings with the fuel, facilities and so on.
Let's hope a repeat can be made with ANA and Japan Airlines as well, especially that the battery incidents took place in Boston with JL.
And by the way, Aeromexico wants to operate the 787 to JFK, not just to maximize its operation, but to also provide New Yorkers a wonderful way to fly between the Northeastern US and Mexico. Mind you, it is a huge incentive to do so because it could be the largest aircraft to be used between New York (and the Northeast) and Mexico for a long time after B747s were used. And AM sees JFK as a top destination as well because of its connections: Mexico City being the capital of Mexico, New York being the world's financial capital.
Aeromexico has 15 787s on order (direct orders & lease) and they have 7 767s and 4 777s. You can do the math, they will be opening new routes with the 787 in due time.
For starters the 20% fuel savings over the 767, probably even more over their aging 767-200s is much more interesting for them right now. It's also a huge capacity increase, the 787-8s will have 70 more seats then the 767-200 they are replacing. It's a good chance for them to expand their current business first before digging into new markets.
The 3rd 787 for BA, the LN114 was the 1st 787 that rolled out with the increased production rate of 7 airplanes per month.
Boeing Rolls Out First 787 Dreamliner at Increased Production Rate
EVERETT, Wash., May 9, 2013 – Boeing (NYSE: BA) has rolled out of the factory the first 787 Dreamliner to be built at the increased production rate of seven airplanes per month.
The airplane, which rolled out earlier this week, is the 114th 787 to be built overall and 100th to be built at the Everett, Wash., factory.
Boeing’s 787 program is on track to achieve a planned 10 per month rate by year-end. The production rate accounts for airplanes built at the Everett Final Assembly facility, the Everett Temporary Surge Line and Boeing South Carolina.
Right... so that means, with that number, AM will definitely retire its 767s while maintaining its 777s for the airline's higher-performing routes to Europe (especially to Spain, France, and the United Kingdom), as well as potentially expanding further to Germany, Italy, and other European countries. On top of that, with the sheer number of 787s, it can definitely expand its capacity on its more-popular routes within Mexico and the Americas, especially to the United States, Brazil, Argentina, and other Latin American countries with large passenger demands... perhaps it's time for Aeromexico indeed to retire the 762s and 763s altogether.
Whoa... That Thomson livery looks sleek and modern with its wavy lines and a tri-color combination... I suspect that it is a departure from its typically all-light blue livery found on most of its aircraft. And I can see a new color added to it as well (dark blue): that seems to be a calm livery indeed.
