I didn't realize until today that the Confederation Line won't completely replace the transitways, which makes sense to me. Here's the current system map, from Wikipedia:

and the map posted above:

Not to get too bogged down on naming, but it appears to me that the segment of transitway from Hurdman to Greenboro should have a name of its own.

Ottawa LRT special trackwork contract awarded
Monday, October 20, 2014

LONDON Trackwork, Canada, has been awarded a contract to supply special trackwork for Ottawa's 12.5km light rail Confederation Line, which is currently under construction

The contract value was not disclosed, although London Trackwork says the order is worth "several million dollars" and includes No 6, 8 and 12 geometry turnouts with single and double crossovers.

The 13-station Confederation Line will link Tunney's Pasture in the west of the city with Blair in the east and includes a 2.5km tunnel beneath the city centre.

The line is being constructed by the Rideau Transit Group consortium including ACS Infrastructure Canada, Dragados, SNC-Lavalin, EllisDon, Veolia, and Alstom, which was awarded the $C 2.1bn ($US 1.86bn) design-build-finance-maintain contract by the City of Ottawa in 2012.

Ottawa previews Confederation Line LRV
Friday, January 30, 2015

A mock-up of the forthcoming Alstom Citadis Spirit low-floor LRV for Ottawa's Confederation Line was unveiled on January 29 by the city's mayor Mr Jim Watson, Member of Parliament for Ottawa-Orléans Mr Royal Galipeau, and Ontario provincial transport minister Mr Steven Del Duca

The mock-up will be on public display in the Aberdeen Pavillion at Lansdowne Park until the end of March.

Alstom is a member of Rideau Transit Group, the consortium led by ACS Infrastructure Canada which was awarded a $C 2.1bn ($US 1.7bn) contract in 2013 to design, build, finance, and maintain the east-west line from Blair to Tunney's Pasture. Alstom will supply 34 LRVs for the 12.5km line and will be responsible for maintaining the fleet for the duration of the 30-year concession

Ottawa O-Train relaunches as Trillium Line
03 Mar 2015

CANADA: Ottawa’s C$60·3m O-Train capacity expansion project was officially completed on March 2, with the entry into service of six Alstom Coradia Lint 41 diesel multiple-units.

However, the launch was delayed by a points failure, and services were suspended the following day owing to signalling problems.

The line has been rebranded as the Trillium Line, with the O-Train name now being used to refer to both the Trillium Line and the Confederation light rail line which is currently under construction

The doubled frequencies are great, it makes the service a lot more usable now that it runs every 7.5 minutes.

Federal government pledges $1B for light rail expansion in Ottawa
Jul 22, 2015 5:26 PM ET

Funding announcement comes ahead of October federal election

The Conservative federal government has pledged $1 billion in funding for stage two of Ottawa's light rail system, according to a letter Orleans MP Royal Galipeau sent the mayor on Wednesday afternoon.

"We have created an excellent partnership for the Confederation Line, and I am pleased this will continue as we work to extend LRT farther east, west and south with Stage 2," Watson is quoted as saying in an emailed statement Wednesday.

The announcement comes after the Ontario Liberals pledged to financially support Ottawa's light light rail system earlier this year, and ahead of the federal election in October

Ottawa urban rail gets federal funding
29 Jul 2015

CANADA: The federal government announced on July 27 that it is to provide up to C$1bn for Stage 2 of the Light Rail Transit project in Ottawa. This represents one-third of the estimated cost.

The government’s contribution will come from the new Public Transit Fund, details of which were set out last month. The fund is being established to support transport infrastructure investment.

Approved by the city in 2013, Stage 2 LRT covers eastern and western extensions of the Confederation light rail line and a southern extension of the Trillium Line, which is operated with DMUs. Completion of all three sections is envisaged for 2023 and would bring 70% of Ottawa residents within 5 km of rail

Funny how governments are always broke and have no money for infrastructure but when an election is only 3 months away they miraculously find billion that they just never knew they had.

It's still running. O-Train used to be one line, but now the new light rail line will carry the same branding. The older O-Train line has been renamed Trillium Line. The one under construction is called Confederation Line. So the specifications will be totally different because they use different rolling stock and platform design. But that's ok, since the lines won't even cross each others paths.

I had been under the impression that they had been retired. Such a unique piece of rolling stock in the Western Hemisphere.
