What's that roofless brick structure, at the right of the tip of Molkenmarket area?

Those are the ruins of a former monastary church

I understand the desire to fill this gap, but why stick with this height limit?

It should be possible to re-create bezirke while including taller building in it, even supertalls. Now that would make it iconic!

I would even create small cityblocks like in the Nikolaiviertel, and curved streets. Like in a real medieval city center. I know that's not how the streetpattern of the other viertels looked like before WW II, but what the heck. It doesn't necesarily need to ressemble what stood there before.

And in some of the larger block coulds be some higher structures. Really mingle the old with the new. It could give some nice results, if it's done right.

All the quarters around the Rotes Rathaus should be bulldozed and rebuildt in pre war state. Alle these blocks around the Rotes Rathaus are simply just UGLY, even that hideous TV tower.

Not really. Molkenmarkt will be the first to get into development mode, but even for this area there's no definite concept yet, as there was this kind of open participation dialogue.

Are there any plans to clean/restore and move the Neptune fountain? I think it is a such a Berlin treasure, but in such an ugly setting! It would be amazing in Pariser Platz or in front of the Stadtschloss or Reichstag.

It is so grand, it requires an equally grand setting.

I'm not even sure if "Marx-Engels-Forum" is still an official name. The part of the Rathausstraße between Spandauer Straße and the Spree River was officially named "Marx-Engels-Forum" from 1983 until 1991 but the Park itself? I'm not okay with the monument but in its original, protected shape (which will be reconstructed after construction works of the U-Bahn are done), the name is fitting anyway. Still better than "Thälmannpark" and its really ugly monument.

Do you mean this monument,

Or this one?

Aren't these monuments a little outdated? I think they should better be in a history museum, rather than in a park. Mostly all other post-communist countries took down their communist monuments ages ago. They could instead just build a completely new monument which reflects modern or pre WW Germany. Another option could be to fill the park with residential buildings, like it was before WWII.

Going that hole we can even abolish imperial era statues and forget building the kaiser monument.

Both statues are ok, those represented weren't responsible for what happened in the GDR.

They are every part a bit of German history as anything preWWII. You know the communists also liked to erase historical monuments that disagreed with their ideology? Are you any better than they are and will you repeat their mistakes?

So we should have also kept all the Nazi statues, swastika eagles etc.?

Because both the NS and the GDR were hostile, despotic and highly criminal autocratic systems (on varying degrees of course). The GDR is downplayed and trivialized much too often.

The more erased a regime is, the more susceptible it is to resurgence? It's surprising how okay modern eastern Germans are with the former communist East Germany, it's almost like Soviet nostalgia in Russia. And the successor party of the Socialist Unity Party of Germany, Die Linke, is even allowed to participate in elections... Imagine if the NSDAP were allowed to participate in elections. These are huge double standards. With the banning of only the far right, it gives a high chance of more leftists coming to power. (Not to mention Merkel the Stasi.) If they ban the far right, they should also ban the far left; or else one will rise without the opposition of the over, it's just like evolution, the predator will strive without something keeping it's population in check.
